Summary

As a Supervisory Immigration Officer, you will develop & refine strategies related to U.S. immigration laws, regulations, policies, & benefit programs to detect, assess, deter, & eliminate immigration benefit fraud that threatens national security & public safety. You will provide data-driven anti-fraud & national security program advice to support operations.

Duties

Help

  • Serve as the FDNS District Chief with oversight over multiple field offices.
  • Provide direction, set priorities, monitor workload and quality, and conduct major program and case oversight to the FDNS field offices or the District.
  • Direct FDNS staff in the conduct of systematic comprehensive reviews of application types to determine fraud trends and vulnerabilities in the adjudication process and identification of potential threats to national security and public safety.
  • Perform administrative and human resource management functions and develop performance appraisals and work improvement plans, provide advice and counsel to personnel, and provide periodic evaluations of employee performance.
  • Provide briefings to senior leaders where there is significant national security, public safety, benefit fraud, and/or law enforcement/intelligence attention.
  • Brief officials and external entities on the current status of initiatives and represent the District and FDNS in developing and implementing national and procedural programs.
  • Implement Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) policies and program activities, communicate support of these policies to subordinates, and encourage active participation in EEO program activities and training.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be serving in a position in Schedule Policy/Career of the Excepted service. You will obtain competitive status after two years of service in this position [if applicable]. Your employment in this position will be at-will. Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeals of adverse actions concerning performance, discipline, and other matters arising under chapters 23, 43, and 75 of title 5, United States Code will not be available to an individual serving in this position. Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/05/2026.

GS-15: You qualify at the GS-15 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the majority of the following duties:

  • Overseeing and directing the development of anti-fraud, national security, and public safety policies and operating procedures.
  • Providing technical and administrative supervision to a staff of officers engaged in programs applying the Immigration and Nationality Act (e.g., Adjudications, Inspections, Investigations, and Border Protection).
  • Participating in inter- and/or intra-agency meetings, discussions, and work groups (e.g. Department of State, intelligence community, law enforcement entities) to enhance FDNS goals and objectives.
  • Developing and implementing antifraud and national security goals and objectives.
  • Providing briefings to senior officials and/or congressional offices on the current status of initiatives related to immigration programs.
  • Conducting liaison with law enforcement, national security representatives, and other government officials.

Education

EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION: There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

If you have not already done so, you will be required to attend the residential, paid FDNS Officer Basic Training course. Additionally, if you have not already done so, you will be required to attend the residential, paid USCIS BASIC Officer training program, lasting six weeks, at a USCIS training facility. Both trainings must be successfully completed according to the standards of the agency. Failure to do so will be grounds for mandatory removal from the position. Such failure will result in either reassignment to a different position, demotion or separation by appropriate procedures.

Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment (VSIP): Per 5 CFR 576.202, An employee who receives a Voluntary Separation Incentive Payment (VSIP) and later accepts employment for compensation with the Government of the United States within 5 years of the date of the separation on which the VSIP is based, including work under a personal services contract or other direct contract, must repay the entire amount of the VSIP to the agency that paid it (proof of payment is required) before the individual's first day of reemployment.
