This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Supervisory Health Scientist, you will:

  • Direct and manage the operations of the Branch with primary responsibility for providing leadership and guidance to Branch staff, utilizing subordinate team leaders to direct, coordinate, or oversee work.
  • Plan, develop, and implement the Branch's policy and program objectives, develop operating plans, and evaluate progress to ensure overall program plans are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Determine the allocation of human and financial resources for the Branch, assure compliance with related legal requirements, and execute administrative and personnel management responsibilities necessary to accomplish the mission.
  • Develop and maintain relationships among national public health, medical, and community-based organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and state and local health departments, and coordinate program implementation, technical assistance, evaluation, legislative, policy, and resource activities.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. The degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

AND

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Directing and managing the operations of a branch or comparable organization by providing leadership and guidance to staff, utilizing subordinate supervisors or team leaders to coordinate and oversee work, and establishing organizational priorities.


  • Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating complex public health or scientific programs by establishing strategies, developing operating plans, assessing program effectiveness, and advancing new translational science and program initiatives.


  • Managing human and financial resources by determining resource allocations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, and making strategic decisions to achieve organizational objectives.


  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with Federal, state, local, academic, medical, and community-based organizations while coordinating program implementation, technical assistance, evaluation activities, and strategic initiatives consistent with relevant legislative proposals and policies.
