Full Job Description
Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is seeking a Supervisory General Engineer ([redacted]M) to work in the AFNWC Nuclear Certification Division (NTS) of Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate (NT) at Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, NM. This position is a NH-0801-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $127-141 - $194,417 (includes locality). The primary purpose of the position is to perform professional management and technical oversight for nuclear compatibility testing and data analysis activities (as defined by AFI 63-125) for current and future aircraft. The NTS mission includes independently assessing surety and executing compatibility certification of Air Force (AF) nuclear weapon systems. Candidates should have a strong background in professional engineering principles and leading teams of engineers, test and evaluation methods and techniques, and Air Force nuclear weapon systems. Experience leading a technical team is preferred. Furthermore, the candidate will assess the impact of emerging technology on current systems and processes to formulate recommendations and solutions. Candidate is expected to continuously lead compatibility certification process improvements to provide flexibly to keep pace with the changing nuclear mission demands resulting from emerging threats and modernization efforts. DUTIES: • Supervises and assigns platform leads. Distributes and balances the workload among teams, ensures timely accomplishment of the assigned workloads, keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and make day- to- day adjustments. • Leads multidiscipline teams of military, government, and industry personnel to provide independent technical evaluations of AF fighter weapons systems to ensure compliance with Department of War (DOW) and AF nuclear surety and compatibility policies. Leads the teams to develop, test, analyze, and verify Aircraft Monitor And Control (AMAC) compatibility with assigned nuclear weapons. • Develops detailed plans, tasks, milestone dates and schedules to ensure proper sequencing of events and tracking of processes throughout the life cycle of the certification projects. • Reviews and ensures approval of test plans and reports. • Ensures nuclear certification test requirements are included in programs master test schedule. • Ensures test plan working groups (TPWG) and Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) are conducted with consistent schedule and test rigor. • Provides expertise for System Engineering Technical Reviews (SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, etc.), test infrastructure, cyber testing, and incorporation of simulation & modeling into the air delivered test programs. • Ensure engineers are expertly trained in the certification process, nuclear weapon systems, the nuclear mission and deterrence, and the design of their applicable aircraft platform. • Coordinates with external stakeholders such as lead Major Commands, System Program Offices, the National Nuclear Security Administration, national laboratories, and others as required. • Performs complex and comprehensive analyses and uses systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approaches to determine if the AF systems are compatible with the weapon(s). REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE): • U.S. CITIZENSHIP • Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance, and as required, be eligible for Special Access Programs. Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations. • Candidates must have a college degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution (or satisfy other qualifying criteria as described below). Candidates must have at least one year at the NH-03/GS-13/DR-02 grade, or industry equivalent. Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
