Summary

This position is located in the SBA, Performance Planning and CFO in Washington, DC. The incumbent directs the development, validation, and maintenance of the statistical and financial models that produce loan program subsidy rates, oversees economic and industry analysis supporting SBA policy and size-standard determinations; and leads the data science, systems, and data-analytics work that governs the integrity, availability, and modernization of the Agency's financial data.

As a Supervisory Financial Specialist at the GS- 0501-15, some of your typical work assignments may include:

  • Directing a wide variety of analytical duties connected with the execution of the budget to include analysis of spending by office and complex loan programs.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to staff to oversee the analyses and evaluation of SBA subsidy calculations and re-estimates on the agency's financial statements.
  • Serves as the expert in identifying problem areas and determines appropriate action required to improve program effectiveness and maintains the integrity of the agency's financial information by implementing controls within the processes and systems.
  • Develops major goals, objectives, and strategies for the office consistent with SBA's strategic plan and OCFO performance plans. Directs work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short-term and long-term priorities and prepares high-level project plans. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, complexity, and difficulty of tasks.

Qualifications

GS-15: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: executing studies to measure economic effects and financial stability of loan programs; maintaining, enhancing and executing loan models; validating and documenting models.

These qualifications must be clearly referenced in your resume.

If you are a current career or career-conditional federal employee applying for promotion under Merit Promotion you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks in positions at the next level lower than the position being filled.

Financial Administration and Program Series 0501

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status as a federal employee is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed above.

All qualification requirements must be met by 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on 09/10/2026.

This is a non-bargaining unit position. This is not a (drug) testing designated position (TDP).
