Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Finance, Indianapolis, IN.

Duties

Help

This position is located within the Revenue Division, Financial Operations Directorate, Office of Finance (OF), United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The incumbent serves as a first level supervisor by providing supervision of a financial program team supporting designated operational financial, revenue, and accounting functions of the Revenue Division. Typical duties include:

  • Directing a team through assignment and review of work, and completion dates for subordinate employees.
  • Making decisions on work-related issues or questions raised by subordinate staff members, provides technical direction and assistance to subordinate staff members.
  • Ensuring proper application of financial policies, planning systems, methods, processes and procedures.
  • Analyzing transactions and work processes and ensures financial management accountability, reporting and/or regulatory compliance.


This position starts at a salary of $107,428.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $139,658.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $139,658 (GS-13 Step 10).

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:

  • Providing technical guidance and assistance to management and financial program staff on financial management, accounting, revenue collection, bond management, audit oversight, internal controls, financial reporting, or related financial operations.
  • Leading or coordinating team members by assigning work, setting priorities, monitoring progress, reviewing work products, resolving issues, and supporting completion of financial program objectives.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements, accounting documents, audit responses, activity summaries, or financial reports to support management decision-making, program oversight, and regulatory compliance.
  • Interpreting and applying financial laws, regulations, policies, directives, rulings, or audit findings to assess compliance, identify deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and improve financial management procedures.
  • Analyzing financial transactions, systems, processes, and internal controls to identify risks, resolve operational issues, improve reporting reliability, and support accountability for financial or revenue-related programs.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
