Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:

Under moderate direction, coordinates and supervises pharmacy services including preparation and dispensing of drugs, supplies and equipment, preparation of sterile products and clinical pharmacy services. Actively participates with the hiring, training, evaluation and day to day supervision of pharmacy staff.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervises pharmacy staff including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

2. Directs, coordinates and supervises pharmacy production activities including drug preparation, sterile products preparation, dispensation and delivery.

3. Participates/assists the Warehouse Coordinator in the procurement of drugs, supplies and equipment used in preparing and administering drugs.

4. Performs duties of the clinical pharmacist when necessary.

5. Maintains clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy and intravenous therapy by reviewing the literature and attending in-services, seminars and conferences.

6. Participates in recruitment and hiring of potential new pharmacy operations personnel.

7. Performs performance reviews, at least annually, on pharmacy personnel.

8. Participates/coordinates in the orientation and training of pharmacy, operations and other organization employees.

9. Participates in branch management and inter-departmental meetings as required.

10. Coordinates/participates in departmental meetings as scheduled.

11. Guides pharmacy toward achievement of monthly, quarterly and annual projections based on financial and management objectives.

12. Follows established channels of authority and communications throughout the organization.

13. Assumes role of the Director of Pharmacy or Pharmacist in Charge during temporary absences and/or vacancies as appropriate.

14. Performs related special tasks or projects as requested.

15. Ensures compounding, clean room and anteroom activities adhere to all state and federal regulations, USP standards and company policies and procedures by pharmacy staff.

16. Ensures documentation is completed on QA/QC records and compounding documents.

17. Oversees the work of pharmacy support personnel and ensures their job duties are completed in a timely manner

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Possesses a strong knowledge base in intravenous admixture and clinical aspects of home infusion therapy.
• Possesses the necessary supervisory/management skills and/or experience to supervise the pharmacy aspects of home infusion therapy.
• Works effectively with others as part of a team.
• Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writting, with patients, clients, management and other employees.
• Has the ability to plan and allocate work, has effective and timely problem solving skills; recognizes when assistance is needed from a higher authority.
• Possesses strong organizational and time-management skills, accurately achieves priorities and deadlines as established.
• Dependable in attendance and job performance.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy or a Master of Science in Pharmacy desirable) from an accredited (Council on Pharmaceutical Education) college of pharmacy.
• Currently licensed as a registered pharmacist in state of employment.
• Possess a minimum of 5 years pharmacy operations and clinical pharmacy experience in home infusion therapy.
