Full Job Description
Job Description

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading all mechanical maintenance activities at the Tallgrass Cheyeene Energy Center-an off-grid, large-scale AI-dedicated critical power, multi-unit generation campus that is planned to produce approximately 2.5 GW of initial capacity with expansion capability up to 10 GW from a fleet of simple-cycle gas turbines and combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technologies. This role provides direct leadership to mechanical craft personnel and contractors, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant systems through preventive, predictive, corrective maintenance and outage execution.

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor applies Human Performance (HP) principles and Tallgrass culture expectations to drive learning, accountability, and continuous improvement. The supervisor ensures Tallgrass values and HP principles are included in effective pre-job briefs, quality post-job reviews, robust event reporting and reviews are focused on process and system improvements rather than individual fault. The role owns mechanical execution quality and rework reduction, holding teams accountable for right the first-time work, defect elimination, and prevention of repeat failures, measured through KPIs including but not limited to rework rate, first-pass yield, defect recurrence, and schedule adherence.

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor works closely with Operations, Planning, Scheduling, Procurement, Reliability Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS, and the O&M Contractor to meet Tallgrass Energy's safety, regulatory, environmental, and mission critical data center commercial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Execute PM/CM activities on turbines, HRSGs, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, valves, rotating equipment, and piping systems.
  • Support major outage planning, scope development, and execution in partnership with Planning & Scheduling and Operations.
  • Ensure high-quality work order management and backlog health using Maximo.
  • Lead RCAs, defect elimination efforts, and predictive maintenance programs including vibration, thermography, lubrication/oil analysis, and ultrasonic inspections.
  • Maintain documentation, OEM technical bulletins, torque specs, and as-built records.
  • Ensure PSM/MOC compliance where applicable for mechanical integrity and pressure boundary work.
  • Manage contractor scopes, budgets, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Mentor mechanical craft personnel and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise mechanical maintenance activities for combined-cycle systems, including HRSG pressure parts, duct burners, expansion joints, dampers, steam turbines, condensers, cooling water systems, and auxiliary steam equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance execution accounts for thermal transients, startup/shutdown sequencing, and cycling impacts on mechanical components.
  • Lead inspection, repair, and replacement activities for HRSG components, including tube systems, insulation, casing, stack components, and safety valves.
  • Support steam turbine and condenser maintenance, including lube oil systems, gland seal systems, vacuum systems, circulating water systems, and condenser tube inspection and cleaning.
  • Coordinate mechanical scopes during integrated outages to align gas turbine, HRSG, and steam turbine work windows.
  • Lead mechanical root cause analyses for combined-cycle equipment failures and recurring defects, with emphasis on thermal fatigue, flow-accelerated corrosion, and condenser performance degradation.
  • Ensure mechanical work packages, procedures, and as-built documentation accurately reflect combined-cycle system configuration.
