JOB DESCRIPTION

The Supervisor, Line Design is responsible for providing leadership, promoting safety and fostering an environment of teamwork to a highly technically oriented group of engineers and technicians who provide transmission line engineering and design support services.  The Supervisor, Line Design is responsible for scheduling and tracking labor resources and work tasks, leading the implementation of standards in the design processes and recommending technical solutions for electrical overhead infrastructure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets regularly with staff to plan, coordinate, assign and schedule transmission line design work tasks including project scope development, cost estimating, proposal development, design preparation and assembling packages for construction.
  • Manages consultant engineering support services.
  • Leads efforts in the development and implementation of standards for equipment, material, design and construction requirements used for electrical overhead transmission lines.
  • Oversees the implementation of company design processes and procedures and the use of computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software applications to ensure consistency, quality and efficiency in the station design process.
  • Oversees development of transmission line material specifications, selection and evaluation of materials and failure analysis to determine root cause. 
  • Provides input to budget development related to capital and maintenance project work. 
  • Works closely with other departments of the company to ensure efficient and effective processes are implemented.
  • Initiates and facilitates process improvement and other Company initiatives.
  • Coaches, mentors, evaluates employee performance and guides training and development of staff. 
  • Interviews and evaluates candidates for employment and makes hiring recommendations.
  • Approves employee timesheets, expense statements and office leave requests.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving vendor invoices ensuring accuracy. 
  • Actively participates in industry forums, conferences and other Company initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly related electric utility engineering experience.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of electric system components, NESC and other design requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and motivational skills, including; mentoring, coaching and developing co-workers and/or subordinates in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze performance measures and implement process improvements.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills, including written, verbal and visual communications.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS office applications.
  • Professional Engineering License Preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
