Department:
Laboratory

Work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director.  Supervises and oversees the operations of the his/her sections by scheduling staff, directing work assignments, supervising ordering of supplies, overseeing and/or writing polices, and performing and/or  supervising the maintenance of instruments and equipment. In addition, performs the duties of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and other duties as assigned by the Pathologist or Laboratory Director.  Performs several duties with personnel management.  Duties include training, counseling, teaching, performance appraisals and as appropriate, the discipline of employees working under his/her supervision.  Maintains department compliance with established Hospital safety standards as well as personally complying with the standards, by assisting with coordination of safety in-services and participating on related committees as requested by the Laboratory Director.  Oversees implementation of any new testing and or methodologies.  Assumes role of Director in absence of Director.

  • Supervises and may perform all tests within the laboratory sections for which he/she has responsibility.

  •  Supervises and may perform quality control procedures and insures documentation of quality control.

  • Performs several duties dealing with personnel management.  Duties include training, counseling, teaching, performance appraisals and as appropriate, the discipline of employees working under his/her supervision.

  • Organizes the workflow within sections to achieve optimal usage of assigned personnel.

  • Plans and organizes daily operations and procedures.

  • Monitors the turnaround time of section(s) procedures.

  • Maintains and updates his/her policy and procedure manuals in accordance with Hospital, TJC, State and    Federal requirements.

  • Troubleshoots equipment, performs preventive maintenance checks and assists in evaluating new equipment.

  • Assists personnel with complex and/or difficult work-related problems, reviews abnormal results and quality control logs and otherwise serves as a resource person.

  • Documents and reports to the Laboratory Director events/or problems that are encountered and provides input as to possible solutions.

  •  Maintains the inventory for his/her sections.

  •  Applies the Hospital’s Policies and Procedures regarding guest relations.

  • Maintains department compliance with established Hospital safety standards, as well as personally complying with the standards, by assisting with coordination of safety in-services and participating on related committees as requested by the Laboratory Director.                  

  •  13.   Performs other duties as assigned or indicated.          

Education: Bachelor's degree in health sciences, Medical Technology, or the equivalent is required.

Licensure:  A current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license required. Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards preferred.

Experience:  Five years of hospital laboratory experience in General Laboratory testing including methodological details and quality control is required.  Minimum of three years of leadership (coordinator, lead, supervisor, or manager) experience is required. Quality assurance and quality improvement experience is preferred.

The hourly rate for this position is $72.45 - $90.55. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
