Position PurposeThe Supervisor - Gas Operations leads day-to-day gas construction and field operations to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and efficient execution of work across Madison Gas and Electric Company's service territory. This role coordinates employees, contractors, equipment, materials, schedules, and compliance-related work while supporting a strong safety culture, effective field execution, employee development, and positive relationships with municipalities, contractors, customers, and internal partners.
Core Responsibilities- Lead and supervise daily gas construction and operations activities, including work planning, scheduling, crew coordination, and field execution across assigned service territory.
- Champion a safety-first culture by reinforcing safe work practices, monitoring field conditions, addressing unsafe behaviors, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with MGE safety expectations and procedures.
- Coordinate resources, equipment, materials, vehicles, and services needed to complete gas operations work efficiently and effectively.
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop employees through ongoing feedback, performance management, skill development, and regular communication.
- Assign and monitor work to ensure timely completion, quality outcomes, appropriate documentation, and alignment with operational priorities.
- Coordinate with contractors, municipalities, property owners, customers, inspectors, and internal departments to support safe and smooth field operations.
- Assign and coordinate compliance-related inspections, repairs, maintenance, and documentation to ensure required DOT-related tasks are completed accurately and within required intervals.
- Support small projects and operational workstreams by coordinating field activities, monitoring progress, resolving issues, and ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, quality, and safety requirements.
- Track budgets, monitor spending, review variances, and support cost-effective decision-making for assigned work, equipment, materials, and services.
- Communicate department priorities, operational expectations, and business goals clearly to employees and partners while reinforcing MGE's mission, values, and service commitments.

Education- Associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational institution preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience- Minimum of five years of experience in the natural gas distribution industry or related utility field operations required.
- Minimum of three years of supervisory, leadership, crew coordination, or field leadership experience preferred.
- Experience coordinating contractors, municipalities, customers, field crews, compliance work, or construction-related activities preferred.
Work Location- This hybrid role is based at our Madison, WI headquarters. While three days onsite is the minimum, team collaboration and business needs may require additional in-office presence.
Pre-employment will require satisfactory completion of a background check and drug screen.
