Job Summary: The Research Nurse Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for providing both operational leadership and direct support for oncology clinical trials. This position supervises a multidisciplinary team of Research Nurses, Research Coordinators, and Research Assistants while maintaining an active portfolio of clinical research studies.

The supervisor is responsible for coordinating assigned clinical trials, supporting protocol implementation, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring study progress, and serving as a resource for investigators, sponsors, and research staff. Research Nurses in this role do not provide direct patient care; rather, they utilize their clinical expertise to support protocol interpretation, participant safety oversight, and study coordination activities.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise Research Nurses, Research Coordinators, and Research Assistants.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, train, mentor, and evaluate staff.
• Conduct performance evaluations and establish individual development plans.
• Monitor workload distribution and staffing needs across assigned disease site teams.
• Foster employee engagement, accountability, and continuous professional growth.
• Address performance concerns and implement corrective action when appropriate.
• In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the incumbent:
• Maintains an active portfolio of assigned clinical research studies.
• Coordinates Phase I-IV oncology clinical trials from activation through study closeout.
• Screens potential participants for protocol eligibility and collaborates with investigators regarding enrollment.
• Coordinates protocol-required research activities with investigators, clinic staff, pharmacy, laboratory, imaging, and ancillary departments.
• Reviews study protocols and informed consent documents to ensure appropriate implementation.
• Serves as a clinical research resource for investigators, sponsors, and study teams.
• Monitors participant safety through review of clinical information and protocol compliance.
• Ensures accurate and timely study documentation.
• Assists with sponsor visits, monitoring activities, audits, and inspections.
• Participates in investigator meetings, site initiation visits, and multidisciplinary planning meetings.
• Maintains continuous oversight of Epic electronic health records (EHR)patient and study statuses to ensure strict adherence to clinical documentation standards, regulatory, and NCI reporting requirements.
• Conduct routine, randomized audits of the electronic and paper records to verify medication accuracy, timestamp precision, and the thorough documentation of nursing interventions.
• Lead the formal review, implementation, and periodic maintenance of Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) Standing Delegation Orders (SDOs) and Standing Medical Orders (SMOs) to ensure clinical alignment with current evidence-based practice and state nursing regulations.
• Monitor departmental utilization of SDOs and SMOs to ensure consistent clinical application; perform gap analyses on order sets and initiate corrective actions when process variance is identified.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience in research in medical setting and knowledge of institutional review boards.
• Ability to communicate and liaise with research participants, research team members, and other relevant partners/key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
• Detail oriented with strong planning and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient knowledge of all Microsoft applications.
• Current, unrestricted nursing license.

Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing is required.

Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:

• Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
• Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
• Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
• Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.
