Position Overview
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Supervisor, Aquatics – within the Culture and Recreation Department, reporting to the Manager of Recreation, Programming. This position will provide leadership and the implementation, delivery and consistency of city-wide aquatics programming for the City of Guelph.
Key duties and responsibilities
Qualifications and requirements
Completion of post-secondary education.
Considerable experience supervising unionized and non-unionized employees in an aquatic setting.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Current Lifesaving Society Swim and Instructor, current National Lifeguard Society certification and Standard/Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and Bronze Examiner certification.
Must possess one of the following: Standard First Aid Instructor/Examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner or Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Trainer.
Experience developing and leading community programs and services through engagement, research, innovation, best practices, and emerging trends.
Experience managing budgets, balancing program revenues over expenses and forecasting/reporting monthly variances.
Experience developing, submitting, monitoring, and reporting on grant and funding opportunities.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, management, agencies, and members of our community.
Experience developing and administering aquatic related policies and procedures.
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines in order to meet deadlines.
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to meet customer needs with empathy, solution-focused approaches and meaningful outcomes.
Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Regulation 565, TSSA standards for water slides, the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), corporate policies and procedures and other relevant statutes.
Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competencies to best support staff and members of our community.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
A satisfactory police record/vulnerable sector check will be required at the time of job offer
A valid Class G driver’s license with a good driving record. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver/s abstract before their start date to confirm their license is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 5 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements.
The following certifications are considered an asset: High Five certification, Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor certification, Ontario Fitness Certification and/or Aquafit/Aquatic Therapy Certification or Pool Operator certification.
Hours of work35 hours per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Some occasional weekend/evening work is required. After-hours availability to respond to issues and emergencies is also required including participation in a paid on-call rotation.
