JOB TITLE: Supervisor Accounting
SALARY RANGE: $44.43 - $55.54 per hour (See Wage Progression Chart)

SUMMARY:
This position supervises an accounting staff of 4; delegates work assignments and controls the proper recording of all operating, capital, and reimbursable activity to the company's financial records on a monthly and yearly basis. Monitor all processes and any subsequent errors/problems to maintain the flow of information throughout the department/company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and direct a staff of analysts in the recording of all operating, capital, and reimbursable activity.
- Oversee the monthly/yearly closing of the LIRR's financial bonds.
- Review and approve journal entries to record accounting transactions.
- Control the proper and timely recording of all LIRR financial activities.
- Assist with the annual issuance of the audited financial statements.
- Monitor and open receivable aging to ensure timely invoicing and adjustments.
- Review and track all third-party invoices and force account invoices for payment approval and monitor processing time from generation to pre-bill to the BSC invoice.
- Evaluate projects that are 90% completed and/or beneficial use.
- Answer daily inquiries from Project Management and others; provide requests and/or support in an expeditious manner.
- Review all third-party invoices and ensure payment of contractors for Capital project work.
- Prepare the Property, Plant and Equipment footnote for financial statements.
- Analyze and prepare the Capital Asset portion of the MDA, which requires a detailed flux analysis quarterly and at year-end.
- Identify project activities that qualify for potential write-offs and provide analysis quarterly.
- Prepare, secure approval, and book retirements of company assets, and if applicable, process disposal sales orders.
- Interact with other departments, agencies, and the BSC to ensure proper recording of activity.
- Investigate systems and procedures for the purpose of developing, recommending, and implementing new processes.
- Responsibility for the daily administrative activities such as payroll, vacation schedules, etc.
- Other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and processes.
- Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective analytical and problem solving skills.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computer software applications (Word, Excel, and Access) and mainframe applications (PeopleSoft).
- Strong work ethic and professional integrity.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience (or demonstrated equivalent).
PREFERRED
- MBA Degree/CPA.
- Prior auditing and supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of LIRR financial operations.
- Familiarity with the TCU collective bargaining unit.
