Department of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for a
Supervising Social Worker who will oversee social workers engaged in providing a broad range of social services to individuals to enhance their capacity for social functioning. The Black Infant Health (BIH) Supervising Social worker shall reflect the community being served to support a BIH program that is relevant to the cultural heritage of Black Birthing People, and the community. Within a culturally affirming environment and honoring the unique history of the Black birthing population, the Black Infant Health (BIH) Program uses a group-based approach with complementary client-centered case management to help women develop life skills, learn strategies for reducing stress and build social support. BIH participants participate in weekly group sessions, supported by one-to-one case management designed to help access their own strengths and set health-promoting goals for themselves and their babies. The incumbent in this position will work under the direction of a Public Health Program Coordinator in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual and population-based program services; leading community engagement functions; and supervising professional and paraprofessional staff.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTTravel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

Minimum RequirementsExperience: Two (2) years of experience performing professional social work duties equivalent to a Social Worker II in San Bernardino County.
-AND-Education: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework, half of which must be
upper division, in behavioral science, psychology, social work, sociology, human services, behavioral anthropology, gerontology, cultural and gender studies, or human development.
Note: Social Worker II Trainee experience is not considered qualifying and must be clearly distinguished from journey-level Social Worker II experience in the work experience section of your application.
Required Documentation: A list of completed coursework or copies of transcripts
must be submitted with the application unless the applicant possesses a Bachelor's degree in one of the specified areas. Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. BSW/MSW degrees or coursework must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
Degrees or coursework completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Proof of the required completed coursework and/or degree(s) may be required at the time of the interview.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess socio-cultural experiences comparable to the population served, along with knowledge and respect of the values and beliefs of Black/African-American women and the Black/African-American community; fully embrace and support the BIH Governing Concepts of cultural competence, client-centered, strength-based, and cognitive skill building approaches; possess knowledge of women's health, including prenatal and post-partum mental health; be knowledgeable of the life course perspective, infant behavior and development, and local community and social service resources; demonstrate sound communication, counseling, group facilitation and interpersonal skills, along with critical thinking and problem solving skills; posses administrative skills such as report writing, appointment scheduling, case management, and computer use, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, while adhering the program productivity standards.
