What you'll do

The Supervising Pharmacist is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing and supervising pharmacy activities and personnel, in the pharmacy. Maintains the pharmacy within established hospital and regulatory agency laws, accreditation standards, and Department of Health and Education Regulations. May serve as the designated person responsible for hospital wide compliance with USP 795, 797, and 800 standards dependent on area of practice.

  • Performs all duties of the NYS Supervising Pharmacist as defined by NYS Education Law including but not limited to:
  • Keep in proper form all records required relating to the purchase and dispensing of all prescription required drugs including controlled substance requirements
  • Eliminate from stock all misbranded and adulterated drugs including outdated drugs and drugs not properly labeled
  • Provide for the proper storage of drugs in order to prevent loss or deterioration
  • Ensure coverage of the pharmacy by licensed pharmacists
  • Ensure against unauthorized refills of prescriptions and unauthorized sale of legend drugs
  • Ensure against unauthorized entry into the pharmacy's dispensing and compounding area and ensure appropriate security
  • Supervise the storage, sale, dispensing or compounding of drugs, poisons and restricted devices (i.e., hypodermis needles and syringes)
  • Instruct ALL employees, either orally or in writing, at regular intervals relative to the appropriate activities in connection with the practice of pharmacy
  • When a Supervising Pharmacist is to be absent from a pharmacy at any time, he/she should be certain that another qualified pharmacist is present during his/her absence as provided under Education Law
  • Be certain that the pharmacy is properly registered and operating in accordance with the present laws, rules and regulations
  • Use "reasonable" means to determine that the drugs being held for sale meet established standards (federal and state)
  • Issue verbal and written notice to each of his/her subordinates concerning the laws, rules and regulations (federal, state, and local) relative to proper pharmacy practice
  • Ensure that no prescription required drugs or devices are sold at wholesale unless the pharmacy possesses a New York State Board of Pharmacy wholesaler registration
  • Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective, and cost-effective manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures and regulatory agencies
  • Oversees all aspects of pharmacy operations, including medication purchasing, distribution, and security
  • Effectively coordinates and administers personnel policies and procedures in conjunction with selection, orientation, training, assignment and staffing, evaluation, discipline and discharging employees in compliance with applicable employment regulations
  • Oversees implementation of new programs, initiatives, procedures, policies, platforms in accordance with BHN Quality Pillars
  • Works with the professional and technical staff to assure compliance with all State and Federal pharmacy regulations. Maintains necessary standards for practice for compliance with Federal DEA and State BNE regulations as well as the current accreditation standards
  • Prepares and monitors budgets and expenses for all pharmacy operations
  • Prepares reports for and informs senior management of issues and matters relating to the pharmacy operations
  • Participates as the pharmacy lead in discussion of, modifications to, and implementation of all informatics platforms that touch pharmacy operations
  • In some areas, as the designated person, oversees departmental or hospital wide compliance with USP 795, 797 and 800 standards

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree, B.S. Pharmacy, required
  • Master's Degree, M.S. or Pharm. D, preferred

  • Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis

Pay Range

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. The above compensation range represents a good faith belief of the compensation range by Bassett Healthcare Network, and its entities and affiliates, at the time of this posting or advertisement.

Pay Range Minimum:

USD $138,424.00/Yr.
Pay Range Maximum:

USD $179,961.60/Yr.
