Full Job Description
Primary Function:

The Supervising Engineer leads a specialized engineering team within Dashiell's Land Development Group, providing technical oversight and management of engineering staff executing substation site design projects. This role bridges senior project delivery leadership with direct team supervision. The position will be based in our Houston, TX office located at 12301 Kurland Drive, Suite 400 Houston, TX 77034 and will report to Dashiell's Director of Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Supervise a team of engineers in the Land Development Group, managing daily workflow, project assignments, and technical quality.


  • Oversee preparation and review of substation civil site design deliverables for compliance with standards, codes, and client requirements.


  • Manage project schedules and budgets across assigned projects and team portfolio.


  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support career development for direct reports.


  • Serve as senior point of contact for clients on assigned projects and key accounts.


  • Coordinate with project managers and discipline managers to optimize resource deployment.


  • Identify staffing needs and participate in recruiting and onboarding of engineering staff.


  • Support development and continuous improvement of engineering processes and quality standards.


  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering discipline required.


  • Minimum 12 years of civil engineering experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.


  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.


  • Proven supervisory and people management skills.


  • Strong project management capability across multiple concurrent projects.


  • Deep technical expertise in substation civil site design and permitting.


  • Ability to develop staff through coaching, feedback, and structured development plans.


  • Excellent communication skills for client, executive, and team-level interactions.


  • Experience with resource planning and workload management.


  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, FR clothing, and hearing protection.


  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.


Environmental Conditions

  • Combination of climate-controlled office work and outdoor construction environments.


  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.


  • Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions during site visits.


Driving & Safety-Sensitive Positions

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with Dashiell's motor vehicle policies. Incumbents must maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
