Primary Purpose The Superintendent of Schools serves as the educational leader and chief executive officer of the district, responsible for advancing student growth and achievement, driving equity-focused policies, maintaining operational excellence across all district functions, providing strategic vision, implementing board-adopted policy, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability, and championing inclusive educational practices that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of every student.
Qualifications Education/Certification: - Master's degree (required), preferably in Education, Leadership, or a related field
- Doctorate in Education or related field (preferred)
- Valid principal certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) or an equivalent certification from another state or country
- Successful completion of the TExES Superintendent (195) certification exam and a TEA approved Superintendent Educator Preparation Program
- Valid Texas Superintendent Certificate
Experience: - Minimum five years of leadership experience in school or district-level administration
- Prior experience as a superintendent or deputy superintendent preferred
- Demonstrated track record of improving academic outcomes and closing opportunity gaps in diverse school communities.
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Extensive knowledge of education policy, finance, curriculum, instruction, and school governance
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex systems and improve student outcomes
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills
- Proven ability to manage personnel, interpret data, and execute policy
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Leadership: - Serve as chief instructional leader of the district, driving high-quality instruction, curriculum alignment, and professional learning that prioritize literacy and academic growth.
- Monitor all instructional programs and services to ensure alignment with state standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with staff, board, and community to develop and evaluate curriculum and district improvement plans.
- Use data to support instructional decisions and improve student learning outcomes.
- Implement effective, research-based interventions for students needing additional support.

Talent Development & Staff Leadership - Develop and support strong campus and district leaders through feedback, coaching, and growth opportunities.

Fiscal and Operational Management: - Prepare, manage, and oversee the district's budget in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure prudent use of resources and compliance with all applicable laws.
- Oversee maintenance and safety of all district facilities.
- Monitor and manage district risk, insurance, and safety programs.
- Submit required reports to the board, TEA, and other agencies accurately and timely.
Student Services and Management: - Promote student success, well-being, and equitable access to support services.
- Implement restorative and research-based discipline systems that support safe, inclusive learning environments while addressing disproportionality and promoting positive behavior supports.
- Address the needs of all student groups and implement programs to close achievement gaps.
Community Engagement and Public Relations: - Foster strong relationships with families, community organizations, and local governments.
- Create systems to gather feedback from students, families, educators, and staff that inform district decision-making.
- Represent the district in regional, state, and national activities.
Professional Growth and Development: - Pursue ongoing professional development through reading, research, training, conferences, networking, and mentorship.
- Collaborate with the board to design and implement a superintendent performance evaluation plan.
Board Relations: - Serve as advisor and collaborative partner to the board and implement its policies and priorities.
- Prepare board agendas and related materials in cooperation with the board president.
- Keep the board informed of district needs, operations, and legal issues.
- Attend and participate in all board meetings unless legally excluded.
- Serve as liaison between board and district personnel, interpreting board policies and decisions to staff and community.
- Communicate consistently and transparently with all board members to maintain trust and clarity.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Provide general supervision over all campuses, departments, and employees.
- Direct district leadership to ensure consistent and effective implementation of programs.
- Be accountable to the board of trustees for all district operations.
