Full Job Description
The Security Electronics (SEC) Superintendent is responsible for the field execution, installation, integration, and commissioning of security electronics systems on detention and correctional facility projects.

This includes systems such as electronic locking controls, PLC-based control systems, access control, intercoms, CCTV, and integrated security platforms. The SEC Superintendent leads field technicians and coordinates closely with Detention Equipment (DEC), electrical trades, and general construction teams to ensure systems are installed and fully functional.

Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Execution
  • Lead all on-site SEC installation and integration activities
  • Supervise technicians, subcontractors, and integration teams
  • Maintain full control of daily field operations
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and per specification

System Installation & Integration
  • Oversee installation of:
    • Electronic locking and control systems
    • PLC panels and control wiring
    • Access control systems
    • Intercom and communication systems
    • CCTV and monitoring systems
  • Ensure proper wiring, terminations, and device installation
  • Verify full system integration and functionality

Submittals & Documentation Coordination
  • Support the Project Manager in reviewing and implementing approved submittals
  • Ensure all field work aligns with approved shop drawings and specifications
  • Identify discrepancies between field conditions and submittals and escalate as needed
  • Assist in tracking submittal status and ensuring field readiness

Material Tracking & Logistics
  • Track delivery, inventory, and usage of all SEC materials and components
  • Coordinate material deliveries with project schedule and installation sequencing
  • Verify materials received match approved submittals and project requirements
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and protection of equipment
  • Identify material shortages early and communicate with Project Manager

Coordination with DEC & Trades
  • Coordinate closely with DEC Superintendent and install teams
  • Ensure alignment between locking hardware and electronic controls
  • Work with:
    • Electrical contractors
    • Low-voltage installers
    • General contractor
  • Resolve sequencing and installation conflicts

Scheduling & Planning
  • Execute SEC scope in alignment with project schedule
  • Develop short-term work plans and crew assignments
  • Identify schedule risks and adjust proactively

Testing & Commissioning
  • Lead system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning
  • Verify systems operate according to design intent
  • Coordinate with vendors, programmers, and engineers
  • Support AHJ inspections and approvals

Quality Control
  • Inspect all installations for compliance with standards
  • Ensure wiring quality, labeling, and documentation accuracy
  • Minimize punch list items and rework

Safety Management
  • Enforce OSHA and company safety standards
  • Conduct safety meetings and inspections
  • Ensure safe practices for electrical and low-voltage systems

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
  • Diagnose system issues including:
    • Wiring faults
    • PLC/control issues
    • Communication failures
  • Resolve issues quickly to maintain schedule

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain daily reports and progress tracking
  • Document installation status, issues, and delays
  • Utilize project management tools (e.g., Procore) for reporting, submittal tracking, and communication
  • Communicate regularly with Project Manager and Operations Manager

Commissioning & Closeout
  • Support final system validation and turnover
  • Assist with punch list completion
  • Ensure delivery of:
    • As-built drawings
    • O&M manuals
    • System documentation

Qualifications

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training in electronics, electrical systems, or controls preferred

Experience
  • 5-10+ years in:
    • Security electronics
    • Low-voltage systems
    • Electrical or controls installation
  • Experience with:
    • Detention or correctional facilities (strongly preferred)
    • PLC-based systems and controls
    • System integration and commissioning

Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Low-voltage wiring and systems
    • PLC controls and troubleshooting
    • Networked security systems
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Electrical schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Shop drawings
