Position SummaryThe Superintendent - Mobile Maintenance (Mining, AHS Hauling) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all mobile equipment maintenance activities, including autonomous haul trucks, support equipment, and ancillary mining fleets. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of mining assets while supporting production objectives and autonomous haulage system (AHS) performance.
The Superintendent leads a high-performing team of supervisors, planners, technicians, and contractors, fostering a culture of zero harm, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include developing and executing maintenance strategies, driving equipment reliability and availability, managing budgets and resources, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting workforce development.
This position works closely with operations, engineering, OEM representatives, technology groups, and AHS vendors to optimize fleet performance, improve maintenance processes, and advance digital and reliability initiatives. Superintendent is accountable for ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations, ISO standards, site safety requirements, and AHS protocols while utilizing data-driven decision-making to enhance operational performance, reduce downtime, and support the site's long-term business objectives.
Safety Leadership & Compliance- Champion a zero-harm safety culture, ensuring all maintenance activities follow MSHA, site policies, OEM guidelines, and AHS operational protocols.
- Lead field-level risk assessments, critical task verifications, and ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures for both manned and autonomous equipment.
- Ensure maintenance teams understand and follow AHS exclusion zones, interaction rules, and autonomous vehicle hazard controls.
- Conduct regular safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-through.
- Ensure the team is working safely and maintaining full compliance with ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) standards
Maintenance Strategy & Execution- Oversee the maintenance of mobile mining equipment, including autonomous haul trucks, manned support equipment, and ancillary fleet.
- Develop and execute short- and long-range maintenance plans, ensuring alignment with production targets and AHS operational requirements.
- Ensure high equipment availability and reliability through effective preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance practices.
- Manage backlog, work order quality, PM compliance, and component life tracking.
- Optimize maintenance windows to minimize AHS downtime and maximize haulage efficiency.
AHS Integration & Performance- Collaborating with AHS operations, OEM support teams, and site technology groups to ensure seamless interaction between maintenance and autonomous haulage.
- Ensure maintenance teams are trained on AHS-specific procedures, including system resets, calibration requirements, and sensor care.
- Monitor AHS fleet performance metrics (interventions, stoppages, sensor faults, network issues) and drive corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement of autonomous haulage workflows, maintenance readiness, and system reliability.
Leadership, Workforce Development & Culture- Lead a team of supervisors, planners, technicians, and contractors with clear expectations, accountability, and coaching.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, and operational discipline.
- Identify skill gaps and implement training plans, especially in AHS technology, diagnostics, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Foster strong communication between maintenance, operations, engineering, and AHS control room teams.
Planning, Budgeting & Resource Management- Manage annual maintenance budgets, cost controls, and capital planning for fleet upgrades and component replacements.
- Ensure adequate staffing, tooling, parts inventory, and contractor support to meet maintenance demand.
- Work closely with supply chain to improve parts availability, reduce lead times, and optimize warehouse strategies.
- Track and report KPIs such as availability, utilization, MTBF, MTTR, cost per hour, and AHS-specific performance indicators.
Continuous Improvement & Reliability Engineering- Drive root cause analysis (RCA) for major failures, recurring issues, and AHS-related stoppages.
- Implement reliability improvements through design changes, procedural updates, and technology enhancements.
- Support digital transformation initiatives such as telematics, condition monitoring, and predictive analytics.
- Benchmark performance against industry standards and identify opportunities for innovation.
Stakeholder & OEM Relationship Management- Maintain strong working relationships with OEM representatives, AHS vendors, and technical support teams.
- Coordinate warranty claims, technical bulletins, software updates, and field trials.
- Communicate maintenance performance, risks, and improvement plans to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Compliance, Documentation & Reporting- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of work orders, inspections, component changes, and AHS-related maintenance events.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, internal audits, and asset management standards.
- Provide clear, data-driven reports on fleet health, maintenance performance, and AHS system reliability.
Administrative & Financial- Review, update, and close SAP work orders with accurate equipment history and maintenance notes.
- Manage parts, materials, tools, and consumables required for maintenance activities.
- Monitor maintenance costs and resource utilization
- Track and analyze maintenance KPIs using digital reporting tools
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in mining or heavy equipment environments
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Technical Skills & Knowledge- Strong knowledge of:
- Diesel engines and heavy mobile mining equipment
- Electric drive haul truck systems and autonomous haul technologies
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Low-voltage electrical and lubrication systems

Working Conditions- Open pit mining environment with exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and extreme weather
- Interaction with autonomous and manned equipment, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols
- May require extended hours and on-call responsibilities
Additional Duties- Attend industry workshops and training focused on autonomous systems, digital mining tools, and best practices
