Job Description:
Position Summary

As an Assurance Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting audit and other assurance engagements while working alongside experienced professionals who are invested in your development. You'll contribute to meaningful client work by assisting engagement teams with assigned audit procedures, analyzing information, documenting your work and conclusions, and building an understanding of clients' businesses, industries, and assurance needs.

As a Tax Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting tax engagements while working alongside experienced professionals who are invested in your development. You'll contribute to meaningful client work by assisting with tax returns, workpapers, research, and analysis while building an understanding of clients' businesses, industries, and tax needs.

Through structured training, coaching, and active participation on engagement teams, you'll strengthen your technical accounting knowledge, technology, communication and client service skills while exploring a career in public accounting and building relationships across the firm.

Internship opportunities are available during the following seasons:
  • Winter Internship: January-April
  • Summer Internship: June-August


Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engagement team members and clients to obtain information and maintain well-supported documentation.
  • Complete assigned work accurately and on time, communicating progress, questions, and potential issues promptly.
  • Apply coaching and feedback to strengthen technical knowledge and work quality.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, initiative, curiosity, and a commitment to quality and client service.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of client and firm information and exercise sound judgment in accordance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Participate in training, team activities, special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.


Assurance:
  • Support audit and other assurance engagements while developing an understanding of clients' businesses, industries, financial reporting processes, and assurance needs.
  • Assist with audit procedures, including testing account balances, transactions, and other financial information.
  • Prepare clear workpapers documenting procedures, evidence, results, and conclusions in accordance with firm methodologies and professional standards.
  • Use firm-approved audit, data analysis, workflow, and collaboration technologies to complete assigned work.


Tax:
  • Support tax engagements while developing an understanding of clients' businesses, industries, transactions, and tax needs.
  • Assist with preparing federal, state, and local tax returns, workpapers, calculations, supporting schedules, and related deliverables.
  • Conduct tax research and document findings to support engagement team questions and client needs.
  • Use firm-approved tax preparation, research, workflow, document management, data, and collaboration technologies to complete assigned work.


Education
  • Currently enrolled or pursuing a bachelor's degree program in Accounting or a related business discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Must have at least one academic term remaining following completion of the internship.


Experience

No prior professional experience is required. Previous internship, academic, leadership, volunteer, customer service, or other relevant experience and demonstrated interest in accounting, or professional services are preferred.

Certifications / Licensure

Required:
  • On track to meet the educational requirements for CPA exam eligibility prior to the start of a full-time Associate position.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • A resume and unofficial transcript(s) are required as part of the application process.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.


Knowledge & Technical Skills
  • Foundational accounting knowledge developed through academic coursework.
  • Ability to conduct basic research, analyze information, and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Openness to learning emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, responsibly to support learning, efficiency, and problem solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

In California: pay rate range is $27.50 to $109.20

In Denver, CO: pay rate range is $27.50 to $92.40

In New York: pay rate range is $30.00 to $105.00

In New York City: pay rate range is $31.25 to $105.00

In Chicago, IL: pay rate range is $27.50 to $92.40
