Your Opportunity

Stantec's Energy team in western Canada is currently offering exciting opportunities for Project Engineers to work on a variety of utilities substation projects throughout Western Canada. The Substations Project Engineering team is looking to fill the role of an Project Engineering Team Lead. Reporting to the Substation Engineering Manager, the Team Lead will lead a team of Project engineers and subcontractors. This technical leadership role is ideal for someone with a passion for building strong teams.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure client expectations related to project scope are clearly understood, met, and exceeded.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members; foster initiative, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Champion a strong safety culture by promoting safe work practices and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Provide technical leadership as a subject matter expert, offering professional engineering advice within and beyond the department.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, standards, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Project Leadership: Lead and coordinate multi-discipline design teams for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring integration across structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical domains.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Resolve highly technical and unusual design or field engineering issues by conducting independent studies and exercising expert judgment.
  • Management Support: Assist project and operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives. This includes proposing plan changes, reviewing contractor payment requests, and preparing detailed progress reports.
  • Standards & Compliance: Contribute to the development of technical standards and ensure all engineering designs support successful, safe operations within the network.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical advice to other engineering professionals.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, & AutoCAD.
  • Previous experience working with or at BC Hydro is an asset.
  • Willing and able to travel occasionally when required.
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, efficient, and a good communicator.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities with a keen eye for detail. Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Engineering expertise across the total project life cycle, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning.
  • Valid driver's license.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 14+ years progressive and comprehensive engineering experience.
  • 4+ years management / leadership experience.
  • 4+ years of experience leading multi-discipline design teams on large, complex projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a range of internal and external customers.

Office Location and Schedule
  • Typical office environment working with computers.
  • Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
  • Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
  • Hybrid work model to work from home is possible.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
