Job DescriptionOur Burnaby / Calgary office has an exciting opportunity for Telecom EIT to join the team.
Telecom EIT is responsible for Telecom engineering and design of substation telecommunication systems for high voltage substation projects. They will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substation communication and automation systems.
They will coordinate the planning and design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
Your Key Responsibilities- Develop telecom engineering designs, drawings, and circuit documentation to support utility communication networks and infrastructure
- Design telecom networks and circuits to ensure reliability, performance, and security for real-time grid operations and emerging technologies
- Prepare design calculations, installation documentation, and construction work packages for telecom systems including microwave radio, fiber optic (DWDM/OTN), WiMAX, satellite, power line carrier, LTE, leased facilities, IP/MPLS networks, SONET, and tele-protection systems
- Design and implement IP/MPLS network architectures including planning, configuration, lab validation, interoperability testing, and migration execution
- Develop QoS and traffic engineering strategies to ensure deterministic performance for mission-critical services such as SCADA and protection systems
- Prepare engineering reports and technical documentation that clearly communicate design intent and meet client requirements
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including P&C, SCADA, IT, and field staff to deliver integrated solutions
- Perform QA/QC reviews of telecom engineering designs and deliverables
- Provide regular progress updates on assigned deliverables and projects
- Interface directly with clients and provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials- Strong safety mindset with commitment to safe work practices and design
- Experience in Substation Design Suite (SDS): Protection & Control is an asset.
- Experience developing telecom design packages, specifications, and construction documentation for utility or industrial projects
- Working knowledge of telecom standards, utility requirements, and applicable codes and regulations
- Experience with telecom technologies such as microwave radio, fiber optics, IP/MPLS networks, SONET/PDH, LTE, tele-protection, and DC power systems
- Knowledge of IP/MPLS networking protocols and technologies including IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, MPLS/VPN, EVPN, QoS, and traffic engineering
- Experience with telecom equipment configuration and deployment, including Nokia IP/MPLS platforms (L2/L3 VPN, QoS) considered an asset
- Ability to interpret client standards and specifications and apply them to telecom system design
- Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to deliver work within project schedules and budgets
- Understanding of project management, contract execution, and construction support practices
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with ability to support site visits and field activities
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent.
- 2+ years of relevant Telecom experience; experience working with utilities in North America is an asset (BC Hydro experience preferred).
Office Location and Schedule- Typical office environment working with computers.

- Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
