Location: NASA Michoud Assembly Facility

Job Status: Full-Time

Join the NASA CPSS II team at Marshall Space Flight Center as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) 1 to support the Science and Technology Office (STO). This is your opportunity to contribute to the Artemis missions and shape the future of space exploration.The SME 1 is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing project schedules in alignment with the NASA Schedule Management Handbook. This role supports projects of varying size and complexity by ensuring schedule accuracy, integrity, and visibility across the program lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the recognized subject matter expert (SME) in one or more specialized programmatic disciplines, including but not limited to strategic planning, project planning, requirements management, independent assessments, stakeholder management, or related functional areas.
  • Provide expert-level technical and programmatic guidance to program managers, project teams, and organizational leadership on complex issues within assigned areas of expertise.
  • Lead or support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes, methodologies, and best practices to enhance program performance and mission success.
  • Analyze complex programmatic challenges and develop innovative, practical solutions that align with organizational objectives and customer requirements.
  • Independently plan, prioritize, and execute multiple complex assignments with minimal supervision and a high degree of autonomy.
  • Develop methodologies, frameworks, and analytical approaches to support strategic initiatives, organizational improvements, and program execution.
  • Conduct independent assessments, evaluations, and reviews to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for process improvement.
  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations to support strategic planning, program execution, and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, government customers, industry partners, and stakeholders to resolve complex programmatic issues and achieve mission objectives.
  • Develop reports, presentations, technical documentation, and executive briefings that communicate findings, recommendations, and implementation strategies.
  • Mentor and advise project teams and less experienced personnel, promoting knowledge sharing and organizational best practices.
  • Contribute to program deliverables, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives in support of contractual and organizational objectives.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, government policies, and best practices relevant to assigned areas of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA.
  • Minimum of 15 years of applicable professional experience.
  • Recognized expertise in one or more programmatic disciplines, such as strategic planning, project planning, requirements management, stakeholder management, independent assessments, or related functional areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple complex assignments with broad scope and significant organizational impact.
  • Experience developing innovative methodologies, analytical approaches, and process improvements for complex business or technical challenges.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex issues and recommend effective solutions.
  • Experience developing executive-level reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical, programmatic, and executive stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across multidisciplinary teams, customers, and external partners.
  • Proven ability to operate independently with broad latitude for decision-making and execution.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearance, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, Public Administration, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting NASA, DoD, or other Federal government programs.
  • Professional certification such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant industry certifications.
  • Experience leading enterprise-level strategic initiatives, organizational transformation efforts, or independent program assessments.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and government leadership on strategic, operational, or programmatic matters.
