Structural Steel Shop Supervisor

Location: Cocoa Beach, FL
Schedule: 1st or 2nd Shift
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: From $40.00/hour, with higher pay available based on experience.
Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Shop Supervisor to oversee daily operations in a structural steel fabrication facility. This leadership role is responsible for managing production, supervising shop personnel, coordinating schedules, maintaining quality standards, and promoting a safe and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural steel fabrication and enjoys leading teams to meet production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support welders, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, material handlers, and other shop employees.
  • Oversee daily fabrication activities to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Assign labor and coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity.
  • Create, monitor, and adjust production and fabrication schedules to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Coordinate incoming materials, outgoing shipments, and delivery logistics.
  • Verify work meets fabrication drawings, shop drawings, project specifications, quality requirements, and safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain consistent shop procedures and production best practices.
  • Monitor quality control throughout the fabrication process and resolve production issues as they arise.
  • Identify workflow challenges and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Work closely with project managers, estimators, detailers, purchasing, and field teams to support successful project completion.
  • Manage inventory of materials, consumables, tools, and equipment needed for daily operations.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is completed on fabrication equipment, welding machines, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop assets.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with suppliers, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Lead production meetings and communicate schedule updates, workloads, and project progress.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
  • Assist with employee training, staffing, performance management, and workforce planning.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 7 years of experience in structural steel fabrication.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory, lead, or management role within a fabrication shop.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, fitting, welding, layout, and material handling.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications.
  • Working knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
  • Understanding of AISC fabrication standards and structural steel industry practices.
  • Experience managing production schedules, manpower planning, and shop workflow.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in an AISC-certified fabrication shop.
  • Familiarity with ERP or MRP manufacturing software.
  • Experience operating or working around overhead cranes, forklifts, rigging, and other material handling equipment.
  • AWS welding knowledge and structural steel quality control experience.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
