Superior Rigging & Erecting is seeking a Structural Steel Estimator to support our Florida operations. This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel erection and related construction projects.

The Structural Steel Estimator will review drawings and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, evaluate labor and equipment requirements, solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, identify project risks, and develop complete bid packages for review and submission.

The ideal candidate has experience in structural steel, commercial construction, or another project-based construction environment and understands how field conditions, labor productivity, cranes, equipment, scheduling, and project logistics affect the overall cost of a project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and project requirements
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for structural steel erection and related scopes of work
  • Prepare labor, material, equipment, crane, trucking, and subcontractor cost estimates
  • Evaluate project schedules, site conditions, access requirements, sequencing, and logistical constraints
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, clarifications, and potential project risks
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Prepare detailed estimates, bid summaries, proposals, and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate with operations, project management, sales, and field leadership during the estimating process
  • Participate in bid reviews and provide supporting information regarding assumptions, pricing, and project strategy
  • Maintain organized estimating files, historical pricing information, and project documentation
  • Assist with handoff of awarded projects from estimating to operations and project management
  • Track bid results and support ongoing improvement of estimating assumptions, labor factors, and cost data
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and industry partners
  • Support multiple estimates and priorities while meeting established bid deadlines


Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, structural steel, steel erection, fabrication, or a related construction environment preferred
  • Experience estimating structural steel erection or commercial construction strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Experience performing construction quantity takeoffs and developing detailed cost estimates
  • Understanding of structural steel erection methods, labor requirements, cranes, equipment, and jobsite logistics preferred
  • Understanding of construction bidding, project schedules, subcontractor pricing, and contract requirements
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate estimating
  • Ability to manage multiple bids, priorities, and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, field personnel, customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with estimating, takeoff, construction management, or related software preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field preferred; relevant construction and estimating experience may be considered in place of a degree
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project locations as needed
