Are you an experienced Structural Project Engineer who enjoys the 'puzzle' of complex building systems? Thompson & Litton is looking for a self-motivated professional to join our collaborative, multidisciplinary team. From designing high-performance systems for new institutional landmarks to conducting vital structural investigations on existing facilities, you will be a key player in delivering safe, innovative solutions to our communities.

The Role: Analysis, Leadership, and OversightAs a Structural Project Engineer at T&L, you will go beyond the calculations to lead the structural narrative of a project. You will:
  • Determine System Choices: Perform and provide direction for structural design, calculations, and system selection across a variety of building types.
  • Lead the Project Design Group: Oversee the work of entry-level engineers and technicians, ensuring the production of high-quality design drawing packages.
  • Be a Field Expert: Conduct site visits and forensic structural investigations for renovations and additions to assess existing conditions.
  • Collaborate Across Trades: Interface with architects and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated, on-budget project delivery.
  • Utilize Specialty Software for Analysis and Design: Become proficient in utilizing the RISA suite of software and Enercalc to economize your designs and increase efficiency.
  • Manage the Lifecycle: Generate construction specifications using CSI-based templates and handle contract administration, including RFIs and submittal reviews.

What You Bring
  • Experience: Ideally 5-7+ years of dedicated experience as a Structural Project Engineer or structural designer within the commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis (ABET-accredited).
  • Credentials: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia is required, with the ability to obtain licensure in other states in the near future.
  • Material Mastery: Proficient in design using Steel, Concrete, Wood, Masonry, PEMB, and Light Gauge Steel.
  • Strategic Thinking: Experience estimating engineering effort and managing project scopes.
