Structural Engineer, E.I.T. - Construction Defect Team

Location: Denver, Colorado **Requires Denver area Residency**
Department: Construction Defect
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Compensation: Grade 2 Civil/Structural Engineer, EIT: $75,000-95,000

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Engineer, E.I.T. to join our Denver-based Construction Defect team. This position is ideal for an early-career engineer who is passionate about investigating existing buildings, evaluating construction defects, developing repair solutions, and working on restoration and retrofit projects.

The successful candidate will assist with forensic engineering investigations, code compliance evaluations, field assessments, technical report preparation, and the design of repairs for residential, commercial, and multifamily structures. Projects commonly involve structural systems, building envelope components, moisture intrusion, construction defects, and post-litigation repair and reconstruction efforts. The role will include both office and field responsibilities and offers significant opportunities for professional development under the mentorship of licensed Professional Engineers.

Essential Responsibilities

Engineering Investigations
  • Conduct field investigations of residential, commercial, and multifamily structures experiencing construction defects or distress.
  • Evaluate building envelope systems including exterior cladding, flashing, waterproofing, roofing, windows, balconies, decks, and moisture management systems.
  • Document site conditions through detailed notes, measurements, photographs,and scans.
  • Assistwith destructive testing, condition assessments, and failure analysis investigations.
  • Review construction practices and compare observed conditions against applicable codes, standards, and construction documents.

Code Compliance & Research
  • Perform researchofbuilding codes, industry standards, manufacturer requirements, and construction best practices.
  • Evaluate compliance with applicable building codes and accepted standards of care.
  • Analyze design and construction documents to identify deficiencies and potential causes of failure.
  • Assistsenior engineers in preparing technical opinionsregardingcode compliance and construction performance.


Report Writing & Technical Documentation
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound engineering reports.
  • Document findings, observations,analyses, and repair recommendations.
  • Assistwithdevelopmentof exhibits, drawings, tables, and photo documentation.
  • Support expert witness and litigation-related services through technical research and documentation.

Design & Engineering Services
  • Assistin the design of structuralrepairs.
  • Prepare construction drawings, details, specifications, andpermitsubmittals.
  • Perform structural calculations and engineering analyses under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Support restoration and retrofit projects from investigation through construction administration.
  • Coordinate repair designs with architects, contractors, owners, and other consulting disciplines.

Construction Administration
  • Conduct site observations during construction to verify repairs are being completedin accordance withdesign documents.
  • Respond to contractor questions and requests for information (RFIs).
  • Assistin documenting construction progress and project completion.


Required Qualifications
  • 1-4years of engineering, architecture, design, construction, or related experience.
  • Bachelor'sdegreefrom an ABET accredited university in one of the following:Civil Engineering,Architectural EngineeringorArchitecture
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with structural engineering principles and building systems.
  • Understanding ofconstruction materials, methods, and detailing.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar design software is preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform site investigations in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access roofs, crawlspaces, and confined spaces when necessary.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
