Full Job Description

GFT is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Structures Group in Boston, MA. 

 

Explore some of our signature projects. 

 

 In the capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate with the Project Manager of structural design projects.
  • Review designs performed by others.
  • Perform structural designs and drawings and write project technical specifications.
  • Ability to develop structural drawings in a concise and relevant manner. Proven record of structural design using structural steel, concrete, light-gage metal, and masonry construction materials. Wood framing design is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Ram Structural System, Ram Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, TEDDS and other structural engineering analysis and design related software.
  • Ability to work with various offices and ability to coordinate with various disciplines in a positive and productive manner.
  • Sound knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT, including the ability to self-perform CAD drawings.
  • Perform field inspections of facilities and transit related structures as needed.
  • Analyze existing structures for retrofits/rehabilitations.
  • Develop gravity and lateral systems for various building facilities and transit related projects.
  • Validates construction estimates.
  • Engaging with all stakeholders in a positive manner via verbal and written communication
  • Perform and attend construction phase project meetings and site visits.
  • Coordinate closely with Client regarding construction activities and job progress especially activities that will interfere with the client’s daily operation
  • Be responsible for the design budgets for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to work to meet tight deadlines.

What you will bring to our firm: 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college is preferred. Master’s degree in structural engineering is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in structural design for buildings.
  • PE (Structural) or SE license required.
  • Proficient at providing clear, concise written and oral communication.
  • Effective communicator who can maintain and foster positive relationships with public agencies, architects, engineers, permits/inspections departments,  and company employees
  • Understanding of cost control and schedule management
  • Resourcefulness, imagination and a passion for challenges
  • High level of fairness, honesty and integrity
  • Design experiences with public/municipal building designs and transportation structures, especially in Massachusetts.
  • Understanding of the MA Public Procurement Laws, MA State Building Code and other MA regulations pertaining to structural engineering.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $150,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
