Full Job Description
City: ((Miami)) State: ((FL)) TITLE Structural Engineer DESCRIPTION CAP Government, Inc. is seeking the immediate hire of an experienced and licensed Structural Engineer (with a Florida P.E. license, is highly desired). The candidate must possess the technical ability to independently work through a project from schematic design through the construction phase with minimal guidance. Our attention to detail and the quality of service we provide to clients, separates us from other firms. Candidates will be required to prepare engineering calculations and oversight of construction documents. Coordinate structural design with architects, other engineering disciplines, building officials, and contractors. Perform construction administration functions including the review of shop drawings and interpretation of construction documents. Duties, Responsibilities, and Qualifications
  • Conducts plan examining in all building permit categories of new and existing installations for compliance with the Florida Building Code; examines building projects for defects, omissions, violations, and other departures from correct procedure; provides recommendations and suggestions to contractors or owners regarding changes necessary to bring establishment up to code requirements; ensures all building construction work conforms to national and county building codes. Performs related work as required.
  • Evaluates proposed alternate methods and materials against code requirements.
  • Ability to explain the Florida Building Code and other applicable standards and/or requirements to customers, engineers, architects and field inspectors
  • Evaluates requests for product approvals; ascertains by field visits that manufactured products used in construction meet specifications of the original product approval.
  • Orders necessary shop drawings and field tests, soil reports and special supervision of construction as required to complete plans processing work.
  • Answers technical questions concerning the Florida Building Code for field inspectors.
  • Coordinates plans examining with other departments for compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the engineering principles and practices of architectural and structural plans examining work.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Florida Building Code and all other applicable codes, standards and regulations. Knowledge of general construction methods and procedures.
  • Ability to read, interpret and evaluate architectural and structural details of construction plans against code requirements and good construction practices.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
  • Ability to rapidly and thoroughly examine plans against codes under workload deadline conditions.
  • Ability to relate to architects, engineers and contractors in a professional manner.
  • Examines commercial and residential construction permit plans to determine structural integrity and compliance with requirements of the applicable codes and regulations.
  • Reviews walk-thru and drop-off residential and commercial construction plans, determines structural adequacy of various types of ratings and structures or buildings, and approves or disapproves proposed plans in accordance with code requirements.
  • Researches problems and complaints regarding commercial and residential work and code compliance.
  • Maintains high ethical, honesty and moral standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education/Experience:
  • Florida Licensed Professional Engineer; or
  • Certified by the State of Florida as a Structural Plans Examiner
  • Five (5) + years of structural design experience with a consulting firm, is a plus
