Full Job Description
We want someone passionate about engineering mechanics and problem-solving.

Our Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) team at SGH is seeking a motivated and creative engineer to join our Atlanta office. The EMI group leverages core structural engineering principles, numerical simulation, and innovative technologies to understand structural behavior and enhance structural performance. Our clients rely on their structural systems to protect critical assets, retain functionality under extreme loadings, and support novel constructed/deconstructed life cycles. In this role, you will contribute to challenging projects, particularly in the nuclear and energy sectors, while also having opportunities to support work involving buildings, bridges, pipelines, tanks, rail vehicles, rotating equipment, precision observatory structures, and other specialized infrastructure systems.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Perform structural analyses under supervision, typically for non-building and industrial structures.
  • Design new structures and repairs of existing structures, especially for unique and extreme dynamic loads.
  • Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses under supervision, using programs such as Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Develop and apply facility-specific design criteria within highly regulated industries.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
  • Review work by technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team.
  • Conduct field inspections.
  • Conduct engineering calculations using software such as MATLAB and Mathcad.

What You'll Need:
  • 0 - 2 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics
  • A Master of Science or Master of Engineering degree
  • Education must have an emphasis on structural engineering and/or engineering mechanics (e.g., civil/structural engineering, mechanics of structures)
  • Familiarity with building design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC through education or experience
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration within five years
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients.
  • Proficiency with computer programming
  • Ability to travel and perform field inspections of structures under supervision
  • May require a valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report
