Role Overview:

Blue Origin is seeking a dedicated and experienced Structural Analyst with expertise in injector and turbomachinery hardware with experience working in ANSYS Workbench. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the structural integrity and reliability of BE-4 turbomachinery components, focusing particularly on the turbomachinery components and subsystems. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge in turbomachinery hardware, including both rotating and static hardware (turbine, stator, shafts, flanges, bolted joints, Bladed hardware, housings, etc..) covering strength, fatigue, fracture, modal, and random vibration analysis. Additionally, the candidate should be skilled in constructing free body diagrams to aid in structural evaluations. Collaborating closely with the design team, you will help refine and enhance future configurations through drawing and design requirements.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• ANSYS Workbench: Utilize your expertise in ANSYS Workbench to conduct comprehensive Finite Element Analyses (FEM), including, but not limited to, strength, fatigue, fracture, modal, and random vibration assessments on turbomachinery hardware.
• Free Body Diagram Construction: Construct and interpret free body diagrams to effectively analyze and solve structural challenges.
• Structural Command Media and Non-Conformance Assessment: Apply your understanding of Blue Origin’s structural command media to assess non-conformances on the BE-4 Main Turbopump components.
• Technical Evaluation: Review spin-start component and assembly drawings, providing feedback to ensure designs adhere to Blue Origin’s engineering, safety and performance standards.
• Design Modifications: Recommend and implement design modifications based on structural analysis results to improve performance and reliability.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Engage with design teams, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure structural considerations are incorporated into the released definition of turbomachinery hardware, and subsequent iterations. Additionally work with Dynamic Environment & System teams to review and incorporate flight responses into the structural evaluations and life assessments.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Will Play a key role in helping with the development of process / best practice guidelines, and provide technical leadership / help skill development for the rest of the engineering team.

Basic Qualifications

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting complex data and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Excellent Technical writing and documentation of results and rationale
• Experience in reviewing technical drawings and providing structural input for design modifications.
• Proven expertise in ANSYS Workbench and advanced understanding of strength, fatigue, fracture (NASGRO), modal, and random vibration analysis.
• Ability to adapt existing analysis and problem solving skills to assess non-conforming hardware and establish the appropriate rationale for production flight hardware (Scrap, Use As Is, Repair etc…).
• Adept in constructing free body diagrams to facilitate structural evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Previous experience in the Aerospace, Rocket and/or a similar high-technology industry.
• Knowledge and expertise in Turbopump, turbomachinery, or injector hardware. 

Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
