Full Job Description
Join our team and what we'll accomplish together

The Capital Investments & Returns Excellence (CIRE) team is the central authority for how TELUS plans, governs, and gets a return on roughly $2.5B of capital every year. We set the multi-year capital envelope in line with our affordability, free-cash-flow, and capital-intensity ambitions; govern the end-to-end budgeting, prioritization, and allocation process; and scrutinize the plans and business cases behind every major bet. Once capital is deployed, we make sure it delivers - tracking performance, confirming the benefits are realized, managing risk across the portfolio, and giving executives the intelligence to make the next call.

As a Strategy Manager on CIRE, you'll own a critical part of that mandate: making sure the capital we deploy actually delivers the outcomes it promised. Working at the intersection of strategy, finance, and operations, you'll track how our biggest investments are performing, build the analysis and reporting behind the executive view of what's working and what isn't, and partner with business units to course-correct - turning performance data into clear, defensible recommendations that reach the executive leadership team.

Here's the impact you'll make

  • You turn ambiguity into clarity. You're an analytically rigorous problem-solver who can take a capital question and produce a structured, defensible recommendation.
  • You're genuinely curious about how a large, diverse business works, and you go beyond the routine question to understand how each investment fits the bigger picture.
  • You bring consulting-grade structure and storytelling. You translate complex financial analysis into a crisp, executive-ready narrative.
  • You hold investments accountable. You have real financial and business acumen - you can read a business case, judge whether an investment is delivering against it, quantify the gap, and advise stakeholders on how to right-size or recover.
  • You make data useful. You design clean, informative dashboards and turn performance data into insight and clear recommendations.
  • You influence without authority. You share best practices on performance reporting and executive communication, and build the cross-functional relationships you need to land recommendations and move work forward across teams.

Here's how

  • Produce the reporting that gives executives and business-unit partners a single, trusted view of how active capital projects are performing against plan - including remediation and "get-to-green" plans where investments are off track.
  • Own the monthly executive reporting on capital performance, translating detailed results into a crisp story of what's delivering, what isn't, and what to do about it.
  • Define and manage the KPIs, metrics, and methodologies used to measure capital performance, at both the portfolio and individual-project level.
  • Conduct post-investment reviews, look-backs, and audits to confirm whether projects delivered the outcomes their business cases promised - and capture the lessons for next time.
  • Partner consultatively with business units to resolve issues, optimize spend, and right-size current and future investments.
  • Maintain the templates, checklists, and artefacts that keep comparisons apples-to-apples, and ensure capital spend is accurately allocated and compliant with financial reporting requirements.

What you bring

  • Educational Background: A degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related business/quantitative discipline. A graduate degree such as an MBA, or a professional designation such as CPA or CFA, is preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years in management consulting, corporate finance, investment banking, FP&A, transaction advisory, or capital allocation - ideally within a large, multi-business-unit organization. Telecommunications or technology industry experience is a plus.
  • Business & Financial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to scrutinize and challenge business cases, pressure-test assumptions, and assess benefits, costs, and risks with rigour.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong financial modelling and analytical skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous problems and draw clear, defensible conclusions - and to turn analysis into insights and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Presentation Skills: An accomplished storyteller with experience building sleek, executive-ready presentations that drive effective discussion and decisions.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated with high performance standards, able to navigate complex concepts and ambiguity with confidence.
  • Organization & Planning: Excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team Collaboration: A strong team player with a collaborative mindset, comfortable presenting complex information in a clear, easily understood way.
