About the Role

We are looking for a Strategic Narrative and Impact Lead to help define how OpenAI's intelligence and investigations work is understood, communicated and acted on.

This is an opportunity to shape the narrative around some of the most consequential questions in AI safety: how emerging risks are detected, how abuse is investigated, how real-world harms are mitigated and how those efforts inform the safe deployment of frontier AI.

You will translate sophisticated analysis, investigations and measurement into compelling, accurate and audience-specific stories. Your work will help senior leaders and the public understand the impact of our safety efforts, support thoughtful engagement with external partners and government stakeholders, and make the team's work more coherent and accessible across the company and beyond.

The role partners closely across Intelligence and Investigations, Communications, Global Affairs, Policy, Safety and Product.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop and own a clear, consistent narrative for the impact of threat and abuse prevention and disruption across priority safety and strategic risk areas.
  • Translate complex research, investigations, technical findings and quantitative evidence into concise, compelling materials for executive, internal and appropriately authorized external audiences.
  • Shape leadership briefings, strategic risk readouts, presentations and recurring updates so that decision-makers can quickly understand the significance, limitations and implications of the underlying work.
  • Develop evidence-backed safety impact retrospectives, drawing on existing reporting, investigations, measurement and threat analysis without creating unnecessary additional reporting burdens.
  • Partner with Communications to identify strong stories, coordinate messaging and ensure external-facing material follows established review and approval processes.
  • Work closely with Global Affairs and existing stakeholder owners to develop briefings and materials relevant to government stakeholders and other priority policy audiences.
  • Help strengthen the quality and consistency of threat reports, safety publications, presentations, workshops and other approved engagement materials.
  • Collaborate with analysts, investigators and measurement partners to communicate both what the evidence supports and where uncertainty or important limitations remain.
  • Support selected safety partnerships and external engagements where a clearer narrative or better-prepared material can advance an existing, approved relationship.
  • Build practical, lightweight ways to identify and reuse strong evidence, stories and existing team outputs across audiences and communication channels

You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have significant experience in strategic communications, intelligence, journalism, public policy, government, research, trust and safety, or another field that requires making complex issues understandable and relevant.
  • Are an exceptional writer and editor who can turn technical or sensitive material into clear, accurate and engaging narratives.
  • Understand how to communicate differently with executives, technical teams, policy partners and government audiences.
  • Can distinguish credible evidence from an interesting anecdote and communicate impact without overstating findings.
  • Have experience working across teams with different priorities, including communications, legal, government affairs, policy and technical specialists.
  • Exercise excellent judgment with confidential information, emerging risks and reputationally sensitive topics.
  • Are energized by building a new capability and establishing the processes, relationships and products that make it durable.
  • Care deeply about how advanced AI is deployed safely and want your work to help consequential analysis reach the people best positioned to act on it.
