What You Will Do:

Our Strategic Communications Consultants help federal clients communicate complex information, engage diverse stakeholders, and advance mission-critical initiatives through integrated communications strategies and high-impact content.

As a Consultant II, you will work as part of a team of problem-solvers with extensive consulting and health care experience, helping clients solve complex business challenges through strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and program support.

Specific responsibilities include:

Strategic Communications Planning
  • Develop strategic communications planning for federal health initiatives that include defining objectives, key messages, target audiences, channels, timelines, risks, stakeholder engagement approaches, and measures of success.
  • Coordinate messaging across workstreams to ensure communications are proactive, clear, cohesive, and aligned with broader client goals and mission priorities.
  • Provide communications planning and counsel to support leadership decision-making, anticipate stakeholder concerns, and address emerging issues and risks.


Internal Communications, Executive Communications, and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop executive and internal communications products, including leadership messages, talking points, presentations, briefing materials, key messages, and staff communications.
  • Collaborate with clients, leadership, subject matter experts, program teams, and external partners to support stakeholder engagement and communications alignment.
  • Translate complex policy, operational, technical, and programmatic information into clear, audience-focused communications for diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across multidisciplinary teams to support effective communication and stakeholder awareness.


Communications Product Development and Content Management
  • Develop high-quality communications products for multiple channels, including SharePoint content, web content, newsletters, articles, emails, fact sheets, resource toolkits, presentations, talking points, reports, and other digital or print materials.
  • Support communications campaigns, outreach efforts, and engagement initiatives that promote awareness, understanding, adoption, and participation in priority programs and services
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to develop integrated communications products that are accurate, engaging, and aligned with approved messaging.
  • Apply federal plain language, accessibility, and style guidance to improve clarity, usability, reach, and impact.


Program and Project Management Support
  • Support communications program management by tracking products, timelines, dependencies, risks, action items, stakeholder input, and deliverable status.
  • Collaborate across workstreams to prioritize communications needs, manage concurrent tasks, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Monitor communications effectiveness through metrics, analytics, stakeholder feedback, and lessons learned to inform continuous improvement.
  • Develop status reports, after-action reviews, communications trackers, and other management tools that demonstrate progress, impact, and areas for refinement.


Team Collaboration and Practice Development
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing consulting team by supporting business development growth, internal Guidehouse initiatives, and mentoring junior team members, as appropriate.


What You Will Need:
  • Must be able to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates must obtain approved adjudication of their PUBLIC TRUST prior to onboarding with Guidehouse
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, communications consulting, journalism, public relations, or related fields.
  • Experience supporting federal government programs or healthcare organizations
  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills, with experience translating complex technical or policy information into clear, concise, audience-appropriate communications.
  • Experience developing communications products such as executive communications, newsletters, digital content, web content, articles, presentations, fact sheets, toolkits, and briefing materials.
  • Experience supporting stakeholder engagement, organizational change, transformation initiatives, or large-scale program implementations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
  • Due to contract requirements, US Citizenship restrictions apply
  • Currently reside in the contiguous United States


What Would Be Nice To Have:
  • Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other federal civilian agencies, or supporting Veteran-focused programs, military populations, or other healthcare stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of federal healthcare programs, healthcare delivery, health policy, or healthcare operations.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style and federal plain language guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility requirements, accessibility testing, and document remediation
  • Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Health, or a related field.


The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00-$124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
