Overview

This hybrid position will be located at our WSS office. Expectations for hybrid in-office schedule is three days a week, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

The Store Design Manager leads the creative and technical development of store environments for new builds, remodels, and special projects. This role oversees the full design process - from concept development and space planning to construction documentation and fixture coordination. The ideal candidate blends creativity with practicality, ensuring that every WSS store delivers an engaging customer experience while meeting operational, financial, and brand standards.

Responsibilities

Store Design & Concept Development
  • Create and evolve store design concepts that reflect the WSS brand identity and customer experience goals.
  • Develop floor plans, fixture layouts, and interior design elements for new stores, remodels, and relocations.
  • Ensure designs support merchandising strategies, traffic flow, and operational efficiency.

Project Management & Execution
  • Produce and manage design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and finish schedules.
  • Collaborate with Construction, Real Estate, Merchandising, and Operations teams to ensure design intent is executed accurately.
  • Review architectural plans, engineering drawings, and landlord criteria to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions, assess progress, and resolve design issues.

Vendor & Fixture Coordination
  • Work with fixture manufacturers, signage vendors, and material suppliers to develop cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain and update WSS design standards, fixture libraries, and material palettes.
  • Evaluate new materials, technologies, and design innovations that enhance store performance and customer experience.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Merchandising to ensure product presentation aligns with design intent.
  • Support Real Estate with site feasibility assessments and test fits.
  • Present design concepts and project updates to leadership teams.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in retail store design, preferably in multi-unit or specialty retail.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and ADA requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to produce high quality and accurate work products.
  • Experience designing value-focused or community-based retail environments.
  • Knowledge of fixture engineering and retail merchandising principles.
  • Familiarity with project management software and workflows


Benefits

The annual base salary range is $82k - $95.6k / year. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible to receive short term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Salary will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Salary is one component of the Foot Locker, Inc. total compensation package, which includes the below.
