This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII's Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5ISR systems.

Summary

The Hardware Engineer evaluates the reliability, performance, and suitability of materials, components, and techniques used in production environments. This role plans, designs, and develops electronic components, integrated circuits, mechanical assemblies, packaging solutions, optical systems, DSP systems, and other hardware elements to support mission and customer requirements. Working under general direction, the engineer develops systems and equipment that involve data networks, communications, and display technologies. The position involves analyzing specifications, assessing feasibility, collaborating with research engineers and customer representatives, and resolving complex design problems. The Hardware Engineer also develops technical documentation, oversees testing, and may supervise technicians or technologists who provide technical support.

What you will do

  • Evaluate the reliability, durability, and performance of materials, components, and production techniques.
  • Plan, design, and develop electronic parts, integrated circuits, mechanical systems, equipment, packaging, optical systems, and DSP systems.
  • Design and develop equipment and systems involving data networks, communications, and display technologies.
  • Analyze equipment specifications, system requirements, and operational needs to develop practical and effective hardware designs.
  • Determine technical and economic feasibility of proposed designs and system concepts.
  • Coordinate and consult with research engineers, scientists, and customer representatives to identify and resolve design challenges.
  • Develop and maintain technical procedures, engineering documentation, user manuals, and design specifications.
  • Compile and analyze operational and test data to establish standards for new designs or modifications to existing systems, equipment, or processes.
  • Direct and perform testing activities to validate performance and compliance with required standards.
  • Supervise or provide guidance to technicians and technologists supporting hardware development activities, as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned or required.


What we are looking for

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in realted field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in hardware design, electronic component development, system integration, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuits, mechanical systems, packaging, optical systems, or DSP technologies.
  • Ability to evaluate material properties, reliability factors, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies, analyzing requirements, and translating them into practical hardware designs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve design issues.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies, data analysis, and validation processes for hardware systems.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering documentation, procedures, and manuals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for engaging cross-functional teams and customer stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise technicians and guide technical support activities when required. Familiarity with industry standards, quality processes, and compliance requirements for hardware engineering.
  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain a Secret clearance.


Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
