Pay Range: Targeted salary up to $104,400 annually, depending on experience

Position Introduction:

Help power one of the nation's leading universities. The University of Oklahoma is looking for a driven Steam & Chilled Plant Manager to lead critical utility plant operations, ensure reliable and efficient campus service, and guide a skilled team delivering performance at scale. This is a hands-on leadership role where operational excellence truly matters.

Essential Duties:
  • Manages all policies, procedures and practices necessary to ensure safe, economical and efficient operation of the central steam & chilled water plant. Ensures that all installations, inspections, operations, maintenance and repairs are handled properly for all plant generating equipment and the piping distribution system and other related peripheral equipment.
  • Must know, observe and ensure the implementation and compliance of all safety rules, and regulations relating to the diverse operation under his/her control being particularly aware of the type of condition that could lead to fire or explosion.
    Monitors the safety practices of the plant employees.
  • Shall inspect, direct and be responsible for all work in process involving employees under his control. This includes the inspection, alteration, maintenance and repair of the plant; its equipment and the piping distribution system. Shall insure that all work is efficiently scheduled in order of priority and importance and ensure that all necessary preplanning and in-process activities are expedited.
  • Oversees and ensure that all work is efficiently scheduled in the order of its priority and importance and those all-preplanning and in-process activities are expedited.
  • Monitor, verify and ensure that maximum generating efficiency is obtained while minimizing fuel and raw materials expenses in the production of steam and chilled water.
  • Shall make cost estimates, requisition materials, parts, supplies, tools etc., as required for proper plant operation.
  • Recommends to Administration, any changes in operations, maintenance policies or procedures that would improve efficiency or safety of the plant operation.
  • Ensures that all new employees and apprentices are taught proper procedures and work habits in keeping with safety codes, plant operating policies and departmental policies.
  • Reviews weekly and monthly plant production reports prior to submission to accounting section for preparation of customer billing. Prepares various management reports upon request.
  • Must stay abreast of changing technology, procedures, and safety codes and relay this information to all appropriate personnel.
    Prepares all necessary documentation and reports concerning any major equipment damage or outage, safety infraction or other major incidents disrupting plant operations.
  • Promptly reports any on the job accidents prepares and submits an Injury/Exposure Information Report.
  • Shall ensure all University, departmental and plant policies are followed. Shall develop and schedule employee assignments, work schedules and vacations for proper plant coverage.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of any site support position to include assisting any skilled trade.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 60 months managerial experience at a physical plant.

Equivalency/Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree.
