Position Summary:

Works under the supervision of the Chief and/or Assistant Chief Engineer. Engineer as directed, shall observe, adjust, record repair, inspect, install and maintain equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance from monthly work schedules.
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of materials, tools, and tool accessories, etc.
  • Preforms related duties including, but not limited to, maintain departmental record, maintain safe, clean work area, maintain safe equipment rooms and supply areas, keep tools in good repair and instruments calibrated.
  • Preforms unscheduled maintenance and repairs when equipment fails to operate. Properly responds to service calls as directed.
  • Follows Hospital and Department policies and procedures at all times, including but not limited to: Administrative Manual, Environment of Care, Human Resources, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethics, etc.
  • Attend, actively participate and complete in-services, training classes, mandatory classes, seminars/workshops, staff meetings, exercises and drills; reads all department communication and assigned materials.
  • Customer Service - Provides excellent customer service and shows compassion to all patients, visitors and co-workers. Seeks feedback to ensure all needs are met. Anticipates and recognizes the concerns of others, even if those concerns are not openly expressed.
  • Communication -- Keeps manager and team informed of progress, problems, development and plans. Gets along and interacts positively with co-workers and others.

Qualifications

  • Work requires knowledge generally acquired through a high school education or GED.
  • Five (5) years' experience in related field preferred
  • Ability to correctly and safety use all tools needed to perform the job tasks. Finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to repair equipment and use tools.
  • Observes, adjusts, records, inspects and maintains a continuous supply of heating and sterilization applications and chilled water for cooling. Observes operating equipment in the boiler room to assure compliance with specific operation instructions, manufacturers' and standard safety precautions. Adjusts equipment for optimal efficiency. Records meter and/or gauge graph readings into boiler log and repair work performed. Uses chemicals to treat boiler water and maintain within approved pH range. Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance, such as replacing worn gaskets, tightening joints, removing sludge or soot, changing filters, belts, bearings, and motors. Manually starts equipment when computer control fails. Repairs or replaces malfunctioning equipment. Inspects steam, condensate, and A/C systems to ensure safe operation.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with fellow employees in a productive manner.
  • Ability to read and write English. Analytical abilities sufficient for determining proper sequence of a task.
  • Must be able to hear, see, verbally communicate, and have tactile sense.


Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, staff is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and/or listen. He/she uses his/her hands to do computer work, write reports, do equipment set-up/cleaning/storage, clerical support, etc. He/she will be using the phone frequently. Good vision is needed to be able to read schedules, enter accurate data, etc. He/she must have good general health and demonstrate emotional stability so as to carry out the above-enumerated duties.
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Use proper body mechanics when handling equipment
  • Standing, walking and moving 50% of the day


Base Pay Scale

Starting at $75.03 hourly . The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
