- This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.
We are seeking a
Mechanical Engineer to join our Static Equipment Engineering Team at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. Reporting to the Static Equipment Engineering Team Leader, you will provide engineering support to improve the reliability, operability, and maintainability of Joffre Site assets. Your responsibilities will include developing short-, mid-, and long-term asset management plans, delivering small projects to support business needs, troubleshooting equipment issues, and developing repair scopes. In addition, you will provide day-to-day technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, and other teams to support production.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to Responsible Care® activities
- Deliver static equipment engineering, technical leadership and support to Joffre site facilities in support of production
- Provide mechanical engineering design expertise for projects of varying scope to support safe, reliable and competitive operations
- Provide reliability strategies and quality assurance expectations to ensure piping, pressure vessels and other static equipment meet or exceed performance requirements
- Lead and support investigations on equipment failures to determine root causes and identify actions to prevent reoccurrence
- Manage single and multi-discipline improvement projects to meet operational requirements
- Support corporate engineering standards committees and site technical networks with mechanical engineering expertise to advance continuous improvement initiatives

What We Are Looking For:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or an equivalent discipline
- 8+ years of related engineering experience is desired; however, candidates with varying levels of experience are encouraged to apply
- Registration with APEGA or an equivalent Canadian engineering governing body is required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven technical leadership ability
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite
- Experience working with SAP would be considered an asset

Additional Information:- Relocation will be considered for this position
- Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
- This role may require ad hoc travel as needed to meet business requirements
- Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors in all seasons
- Positions will include some lifting and climbing of ladders within various levels of the units
- Overtime and callouts are a requirement of the role due to the 24 hour per day plant operation
- In order to fulfil the duties of this role, the successful candidate will be required to wear respiratory protective equipment. Candidate must successfully pass a fit test and be physically able to wear a respirator
- The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license
