What Success Looks Like (Objectives):- Manage end-to-end multistate income and franchise tax filings and state provision calculations under ASC 740 to ensure accurate, timely compliance across all jurisdictions
- Lead responses to state tax audits and controversies to protect corporate tax positions and minimize financial risk
- Execute strategic state tax planning and risk management initiatives aligned with departmental goals and OKRs
- Evaluate and implement AI-driven tools and automation solutions to streamline multistate tax data processing, apportionment calculations, and compliance documentation
- Oversee state tax considerations for special strategic initiatives, including M&A activity and organizational restructurings
- Coach, mentor, and train tax staff to build team capabilities and elevate overall technical performance
Skills, Experience and RequirementsCore Skills and Competencies (What You'll Bring):- Extensive experience directing complex multistate tax compliance, ASC 740 state tax provision processes, and audit defense in corporate or public accounting environments
- Advanced expertise in interpreting state tax legislation, judicial decisions, and multistate apportionment rules using specialized tax research platforms
- AI application skills to integrate data automation and generative AI tools into state tax modeling, data extraction, and risk analysis workflows
- Proven leadership ability to mentor tax professionals, direct cross-functional projects, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Advanced quantitative and analytical proficiency in Microsoft Excel to model tax scenarios and resolve complex state tax issues
Additional Qualifications:- Active CPA certification or Master's degree in Taxation
- Hands-on experience with corporate tax software platforms such as CORPTax and ETL tools like Alteryx
Minimum Requirements:- Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum Experience: 6+ years of experience in state and local income/franchise tax
- Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 6 years of experience with:
- Multistate income and franchise tax return preparation and review
- ASC 740 state tax provision calculation and deferred tax analysis
- Tax research platforms (CCH, BNA, or RIA) and advanced Microsoft Excel dataset management
