Job DutiesVirginia Energy is seeking a Director to lead the State Energy Office, providing strategic direction,
administrative oversight, and overall program management. As a member of the executive
leadership team, this role advances policies and initiatives that support energy efficiency, clean
energy deployment, energy security, economic development, and responsible stewardship of
public resources.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing strategic leadership and vision for the State Energy Office.
• Directing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of state and federally funded energy
programs, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, grid resilience, transportation
electrification, and energy affordability initiatives.
• Overseeing the administration of federal grants and state appropriations, ensuring full
compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
• Developing and managing the State Energy Office budget to ensure fiscal accountability and
effective stewardship of public funds.
• Leading, mentoring, and supervising staff while fostering a collaborative, innovative, and
high-performance culture.
• Serving as an advisor on state energy policy and representing the office before the Governor's
Office, Secretary's Office, Legislature, federal agencies, local governments, utilities, and other
stakeholders.
• Building and maintaining strategic partnerships across public agencies, private industry,
educational institutions, tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, and regional and national
energy organizations.
• Monitoring emerging technologies, market trends, and federal policy developments to identify
opportunities that benefit the Commonwealth.
• Directing long-term strategic planning, performance measurement, and program evaluation to
ensure effective services and measurable outcomes.
• Promoting transparency, stakeholder engagement, and public communication on statewide
energy initiatives and achievements.
• Ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and ethical
standards.
• Performing other executive leadership duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications• Demonstrated executive or senior-level leadership in energy, public administration,
environmental policy, or a related field, with a record of managing complex initiatives.
• Knowledge of state and federal energy policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, grid
resilience, and energy program administration
• Ability to provide strategic leadership and manage a complex organization, including
personnel, budgets, and operations
• Experience administering state and/or federally funded programs and ensuring regulatory
compliance
• Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with elected officials, government
agencies, utilities, industry partners, and other stakeholders
• Excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills
• Strong strategic planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
• Results-driven leader with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver measurable
outcomes
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and standard business software applications
• A valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
