Job DescriptionThe State Budget Office (SBO) is responsible for developing the governor's Executive Budget recommendation, presenting budget recommendations to the Legislature, and implementing the approved budget signed by the governor. Learn more at
Budget Development Offices conduct budget development and implementation activities through five individual offices, each having primary responsibility for specific budget areas. We are currently looking to fill the Health Services Division Director position within the Office of Health and Human Services (OHHS).
This position is responsible for the management and direction of the Division of Health Services within OHHS. The division is responsible for policy analysis and budget development in assigned areas, including Medicaid, Behavioral Health, Public Health, and Aging Services.
The Health Services Division Director coordinates and directs the work of budget analysts within the office in presenting recommendations to State Budget Office management and the Governor relating to the development and presentation of the annual Executive Budget. The position also engages legislative partners in the passage of the annual budget, directs staff activities to implement the budget upon enactment, and monitors agency activity to ensure funds are expended as intended.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONJOB SPECIFICATIONOffice location is Lansing; Budget Development Offices currently offer a hybrid work option (combination of remote/office) which requires two days working on-site at the official workstation with the potential of up to three days remote work per week. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview. Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
Required Education and Experience EducationPossession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
ExperienceTwo years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience.
Note: Experience is considered professional if the job required a bachelor's degree.Relevant experience for this position includes budgeting, business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, fiscal or economic analysis or other relevant fields. Prior experience working with a State's Budget and Financial Management System is desirable, but not required.Alternate Education and Experience Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements
