The Opportunity
As one of the Staff Toxicologists, you will support the development of systematic evidence maps, literature reviews, evidence syntheses, and health hazard assessments. Working closely with senior scientific staff and multidisciplinary teams, you will conduct toxicological evaluations, interpret scientific evidence, and contribute to technical reports and peer-reviewed publications supporting federal decision-making. This role supports evidence evaluation and health hazard assessment activities for environmental and public health programs. Candidates from the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC area are preferred in this role.
This role is contingent upon award of the project.
Core Responsibilities
  • Support systematic reviews, evidence synthesis activities, and health hazard assessments.
  • Evaluate and interpret toxicological, epidemiological, mechanistic, and exposure science data from human, animal, and in vitro studies.
  • Conduct study screening, data extraction, study quality evaluation, and weight-of-evidence assessments.
  • Contribute to systematic evidence maps, scoping reviews, and systematic review protocols.
  • Apply toxicological principles and evidence evaluation frameworks to characterize potential human health hazards and environmental risks.
  • Draft and contribute to technical reports, scientific manuscripts, and other project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure scientific rigor and quality across project activities.
  • Support client interactions, technical meetings, and peer review processes.
  • Utilize literature review technologies, evidence management tools, and data visualization methods to enhance scientific review processes.
  • Contribute to project planning, quality assurance, and timely delivery of project requirements.

  • Knowledge of systematic review methodologies, evidence evaluation approaches, and scientific literature assessment.
  • Experience interpreting toxicological data from animal studies, epidemiological investigations, exposure assessments, and mechanistic research.
  • Strong technical writing and scientific communication skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary scientific teams.
  • Familiarity with literature review automation tools, evidence management platforms, and data analysis techniques.
  • DABT certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting federal health, environmental, or research agencies preferred.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $62,800 to $120,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
