Full Job Description
Staff Technical Program Manager
Location: Waltham, MA
Department: Prototype Operations
Reports To: Director of Prototype Operations

About the Role
We are looking for a highly driven Staff Technical Program Manager (TPM) to support complex robotics development programs within Prototype Operations. This role operates at the center of engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, test, quality, and repair to drive execution across a fast-paced, high-mix hardware development environment.
In this highly cross-functional role, you'll be responsible for driving prototype and low-volume production builds from planning through integration, working side-by-side with build technicians, engineers, and leadership to identify risks, remove blockers, and maintain build velocity. You will serve as the connective tissue between technical execution and program-level deliverables, making real-time decisions and escalating when needed to keep the team moving.
This is a high-ownership, high-impact role ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, communicates crisply, and excels at driving execution across fast-moving, multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead execution across prototype builds, integration, validation, and operational readiness activities for advanced robotics and hardware development programs
  • Coordinate coordinating priorities, driving alignment, and ensuring program stays on track across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Test, Fleet Operations, and Facilities teams to ensure successful delivery of milestones
  • Identify program risks early and drive aggressive mitigation and recovery actions.
  • Drive proactive issue tracking and resolution around process improvements, part shortages, design changes, repair work, and quality gaps.
  • Serve as the go-to owner for escalation, knowing when to intervene, when to delegate, and when to bring in leadership.
  • Champion operational clarity and execution discipline while fostering a high-performance, team-first culture on the floor.
  • Develop and improve scalable operational systems and processes that balance speed, flexibility and quality.
  • Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to support development build maturity and successful transition readiness into manufacturing organizations
  • Create clear executive-level updates, operational reviews, and cross-functional communication that enable fast, data-driven decision making
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or related field
  • 5-7+ years of experience in technical program management, manufacturing operations, hardware engineering operations, or related technical environments
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs in hardware, robotics, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or other complex electromechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, and hardware development processes, especially during prototype, NPI, and low-volume production phases.
  • Experience operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with evolving priorities
  • Proven ability to influence across organizations without direct authority
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage complex schedules, track interdependencies, and align stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills; thrives under pressure and adapts quickly.
  • Hands-on mindset and comfortable working closely with technicians, engineers, and supply chain roles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ERP/MES/PLM systems and operational tooling (e.g. Tulip, Proplanner, Arena, Rootstock, Oracle ERP)
  • Familiarity with Project Management tools (e.g. Smartsheets, Asana, Project)
  • Experience driving root cause analysis and operational process improvements
  • Experience scaling operations through prototype and development build phases
  • Experience supporting manufacturing transition readiness activities

The pay range for this position is between $135,000 to $175,000 annually. Base pay will depend on multiple individualized factors including, but not limited to internal equity, job related knowledge, skills and experience. This range represents a good faith estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Boston Dynamics offers a generous Benefits package including medical, dental vision, 401(k), paid time off and a annual bonus structure. Additional details regarding these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer for employment.
