Overview

We are seeking a full-time Staff Systems Engineer on our Automotive OEM Team at Garmin's location in the Greater Kansas City area or at our location in Cary, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for leading Systems Engineering tasks across multiple complex systems including identifying common requirements which can be leveraged for common platforms as well as design efficiencies within the Automotive Infotainment or ADAS domain.

Essential Functions
  • Performs hands on Systems Engineering activities for large complex systems including all essential functions of a Technical Lead Systems Engineer
  • Recognizes key competitive differentiators for Garmin products based on competitive analysis and technical research and development studies
  • Identifies and captures opportunities for Intellectual Property
  • Balances business and technical acumen to evaluate new technologies
  • Educates other groups within Garmin as to Systems Engineering best practices and processes
  • Effectively represents Garmin among industry partners, peer groups and regulating agencies as required
  • Contributes inventions, new designs, and techniques regarded as significant advances to the product development process
  • Applies advanced theories, principles, and concepts in development of new principles and theories
  • Utilizes knowledge of principles and forecasts new technology to determine business directions
  • Participates in evaluation of proposed or ongoing projects/programs
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced engineers in areas such as design standards, cost analysis, design/validation techniques, requirements definition, requirements management, system architecture and integration
  • Exemplifies Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy to proactively works to improve Garmin's image and culture
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of Garmin's processes and procedures
  • Participates in recruiting activities as assigned
  • Demonstrates proficiency in research and development of leading-edge technology in the automotive industry, particularly in the infotainment or ADAS domain
  • Shows excellent understanding of the automotive product development process and lifecycle
  • Has experience with state-of-the-art automotive working models in the field of software-defined vehicles

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Software Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 14 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrates mastery of all criteria required for the Technical Lead Systems Engineer/Architect
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience with state-of-the-art automotive working models in the field of software-defined vehicles
  • Demonstrates a successful track record in managing exceedingly complex problems and providing successful solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in the Automotive or Aviation industry
  • System level design with MatLab/Simulink, SystemC, FPGA/ASIC design with Intel/Altera, Xilinx, Synopsys, Siemens EDA (Mentor Graphics) and Cadence; PCB layout with Eagle, Hyperlynx Signal Integrity, C/C++, Python, UNIX/Linux, Android
