Full Job Description
Position Purpose:

This team is responsible for delivering engaging, customer-centric experiences across Home Depot mobile shopping app. The Staff Software Engineer serves as the technical leader for the team, partnering closely with the Engineering Manager, Product Manager, and Principal Engineer to design, deliver, and evolve scalable mobile applications. This role owns the technical architecture within the team's product domain, including application modularization, component interactions, API contracts, and integration patterns. The Staff Software Engineer drives technical decisions for complex initiatives while balancing product delivery with long-term maintainability, performance, and reliability.
The Staff Software Engineer leads architecture discussions, mentors engineers across experience levels, establishes engineering best practices, and collaborates with platform teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale, customer-facing mobile applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the technical direction of complex, cross-team initiatives, including architecture design, technical strategy, legacy modernization, and system refactoring.
  • Experience navigating ambiguous technical challenges, evaluating tradeoffs, identifying risks, and driving scalable, maintainable solutions from concept through production.
  • Deep expertise in native mobile application development, with strong knowledge of application architecture, design patterns, performance optimization, networking, security, and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with modern cross-platform technologies and architectures, such as React Native, Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP), Flutter, and WebView-based solutions.
  • Experience designing, consuming, or influencing RESTful or GraphQL APIs, with a solid understanding of client-server architecture and backend integration.
  • Strong understanding of software quality and developer productivity practices, including CI/CD, automated testing (unit, integration, and UI testing), release management, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Passion for improving engineering velocity through automation, reusable frameworks, tooling, and continuous process improvement.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Product, UX, Backend, QA, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and other engineering teams to deliver end-to-end customer experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions beyond direct ownership, build alignment across organizations, and drive engineering initiatives without formal authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven experience mentoring engineers, developing technical leaders, and raising the engineering bar through architecture reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
  • Passion for fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, continuous learning, and pragmatic decision-making.
