Overview

Staff Scientist in mRNA translational control

 

The Lapointe Lab (Basic Sciences Division, Fred Hutch) is hiring a Staff Scientist. The scientist will apply state-of-the-art biochemical and in vitro single-molecule microscopy assays to human mRNA translation initiation.  The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in single-molecule spectroscopy and be comfortable working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

The scientist will lead independent research projects, communicate their findings, present their work at conferences, help draft research grants, mentor other scientists in the lab, and manage day-to-day lab functions and compliance.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • a Ph.D. degree in biophysics, or a related discipline.
  • Multiple first-author research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Extensive experience with single-molecule spectroscopy including microscope building and data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.
  • A strong foundation in hypothesis-driven, basic research.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Independently motivated to think, plan, conduct, analyze, and document experiments and findings.
  • A strong track-record of mentoring and engaging with students.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $84,406 to $191,755, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance. Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
