Full Job Description
Job Description

The Women's Specialty Center (WSC) is requesting approval to recruit for a replacement 1.0 FTE Registered Nurse in anticipation of the retirement of Elizabeth Gross at the end of 2026.

This request represents a replacement of an existing budgeted FTE and is not a request for additional staffing. Elizabeth's retirement will create a vacancy within the WSC nursing team, and approval is being requested now to allow adequate time for recruitment, hiring, credentialing, onboarding, and training of her replacement.

Although Elizabeth's retirement is not until the end of the year, the recruitment and onboarding process for a qualified nurse requires significant lead time. Given the specialized nature of the WSC and the complexity of the patient population, it is important to identify the right candidate and allow sufficient time for training and transition. Ideally, the new nurse will have an opportunity to work alongside Elizabeth prior to her retirement, allowing for direct knowledge transfer, orientation to WSC workflows, and continuity of institutional and clinical knowledge.

Submitting the request now will allow the WSC to proactively recruit rather than waiting until the vacancy occurs, which could result in a prolonged staffing gap and increased workload for the existing nursing team.

Timely approval will:
  • Replace an existing budgeted 1.0 FTE upon Elizabeth's retirement.
  • Allow adequate time to recruit and select a qualified candidate.
  • Provide an opportunity for overlap and knowledge transfer with Elizabeth.
  • Support comprehensive onboarding and training within the WSC.
  • Minimize the risk of a nursing staffing gap following her retirement.
  • Maintain continuity of patient care and WSC operations.
  • Support appropriate staffing and workload distribution for the existing nursing team.

Approval is requested at this time to initiate recruitment proactively and maximize the opportunity for a smooth transition before Elizabeth's anticipated retirement at the end of 2026.
