Job Description

As a Mechanical Staff Engineer, you will play a key technical leadership role within our New Product Introduction (NPI) organization. You will drive the development of advanced residential HVAC products from concept through production, influencing system architecture, engineering analysis, detailed design, validation, and product performance. As a recognized technical expert, you will collaborate across global engineering, manufacturing, laboratory, service, applications, quality, and product management teams to deliver industry-leading solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Technical Leadership
  • Lead the design and development of advanced residential HVAC products and technologies.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical methods to develop innovative, cost-effective, and reliable solutions.
  • Conduct system-level analysis using heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and failure analysis methodologies.
  • Develop mathematical models, engineering calculations, and design tools to evaluate product performance and optimize designs.
  • Investigate product requirements and identify technical solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost.

Product Validation & Testing
  • Define prototype, validation, and qualification test requirements.
  • Participate in laboratory testing and analyze test data to verify design performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for design and product performance issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, safety, and industry standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with design engineering, drafting, manufacturing, quality, service, sourcing, and product management teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support production launches and resolve technical issues during development and commercialization.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to global teams and stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, materials, manufacturing processes, and industry trends.
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives, intellectual property development, and technology roadmaps.
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, design methodologies, and product development practices.

Mentorship & Team Development
  • Mentor and develop engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and project leadership.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Lead technical activities and influence engineering decisions across multiple projects and product platforms.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of product design and development experience in HVAC, refrigeration, thermal systems, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple product development programs from concept through production release.
  • Experience serving as the lead engineer for at least one major product platform or product family.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment skills.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design, engineering analysis, and product validation methods.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and drive results within a global, cross-functional organization.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with residential HVAC systems, heat pumps, inverter drive systems, , air handling equipment, refrigeration systems, or thermal management products.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory and industry standards, including UL, ASHRAE, AHRI, and related certifications.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), design for manufacturing (DFM), and design for reliability (DFR) practices.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead technical teams.
