About the role
We're looking for a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development, integration, and optimization of complex mechanical systems for next-generation additive manufacturing platforms. In this senior individual-contributor role, you'll partner closely with electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust, cost-effective designs from early concept through production release. You'll bring strong mechanical fundamentals, hands-on prototyping instincts, and the ability to influence technical decisions through clear engineering rigor.
What you'll do
- Design and release mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD, applying DFM/DFA best practices and product requirements.
- Lead design reviews and engineering decision-making through tolerance analysis, risk assessment, and clear documentation.
- Build, test, and iterate prototypes using modeling, simulation, and hands-on validation to ensure performance and reliability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (systems, electrical, software, manufacturing, quality, suppliers) to ensure end-to-end product integration.
- Support transition to manufacturing by resolving design-for-quality, cost, and performance issues through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Mentor engineers and elevate team capability by improving design standards, tools, and processes.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience in product development and/or equipment design.
- Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor) and engineering drawing practices.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical systems, materials, tolerance stack-ups, and design for manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, test planning, and design validation.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drafting standards.
Nice to have
- Experience designing for additive manufacturing and/or capital equipment development.
- Familiarity with analysis tools (e.g., FEA, thermal analysis) and using simulation to guide design decisions.
- Background designing sheet metal, injection-molded, and machined components.
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter).
- Strong ownership mindset with clear, proactive cross-functional communication.
Why you'll love this role
You'll own high-visibility mechanical designs that directly influence product performance, reliability, and customer outcomes. This role offers deep technical challenges, hands-on development, and the chance to shape engineering best practices in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
